I've seen 73 movies released in 2025 and 2026 so far and none of them were "gray , no-contrast sludge" movies, (maaaaybe one of them is arguable). What movies are people watching??!

Some theaters are not lighting projections correctly. Or their color temp is off. Had that experience in cheaper theaters Lemme & Pacific.

Movies are finally getting better while TV is getting worse, even some cartoons are now turning to gray sludge chasing moodiness. Not everybody has a 2000-nit high end monitor for a TV, the average is now 300-500 nits and a lot of recent movies and even more recent TV shows look like nothing

Even if that shot doesn't look so bad on your monitor (it's pulled directly from a 2026 Disney+ show), this is about how it looked on my 2020 Samsung TV at max brightness with HDR 10+ - blaming the TV for not being bright enough is ultimately blaming the audience for not being wealthy enough

I have a feeling a lot of these complaints are from people watching on poorly color calibrated televisions/monitors Or even just on phones/tablets in super bright environments

There's a real contrast between the use of color in Superman (2025) and Supergirl (2026) and in part I can accept it as part of the mood and the particular kind of semi-barren planets that were most of the setting. But all the dust storms in the last act were not very interesting for me to watch.
