I ran the seafood department of a grocery store for about 6 months. It was a small store, and I was the only employee in the department, and they promised it could turn into a full time salary position as seafood manager if I did a good job and got profits up. I did not do a good job.

In my defense, the next several people after me weren't able to get profits to that point either, so it was a carrot and stick situation.

But also, i was 20 years old, had just dropped out of college, and was in no way qualified for that kind of responsibility.
