Why would I use "AI," I actually know how to fucking write

Laura Keating@lorekeating.bsky.social

I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines. Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

If you include researching and editing as part of the overall process, there are LLM-based tools that can reduce your workload and leave more time for the actual writing. That’s why some people use it.

why would I ever have the lying machine do my research if I have to rigorously check it for hallucinations anyway, and why would I ever have an LLM "edit" my work when it can't have any opinions or process meaning

As a talented researcher and writer I would sooner move into a cave and write on the goddamn walls than let an LLM anywhere near my work. And that’s not just pride, I’m in psychology, I know what these things are capable of.
