Psychiatrist Dr. Andrew McLean of the University of North Dakota wrote for us about what “overuse” really means and whether antidepressants are always the right treatment. #mentalhealth #antidepressants #depression #anxiety

theconversation.comAre too many Americans taking antidepressants?Calls to reduce the use of antidepressants highlight valid issues with long-term use and withdrawal, but blanket efforts to discourage their use overlooks why they are so widely prescribed.

Antidepressants saved my life. Along with therapy, I am more capable today than anytime in the past decade if not 2-3. The key is the right doc prescribing. My PCP prescribed something that a Psyc later said was exactly what not to rx because of interactions with other meds. Hence specialization.

I am surprised there are not more Americans take anti-depressants. It can't be a very happy place to live with an economy tanking, a war with Iran, cost of living crisis, reputation gone, a deluded, demented corrupt President who is the laughing stock of the world. It's enough to depress anyone!
