One of my favorite cases of weird disc reuse. Bandai originally released Blue Sub No.6 on 4 DVD-5s. For the “special edition” box set, they reduced this to 3, and added a bunch of extras only authoring one new disc. How? They reused the singles, but as 2 double-sided discs (plus a bonus disc)

This meant that they didn’t have to reauthor the episode discs: they just sent the files they already had, but specified it as 2 DVD-10s instead of 4 DVD-5s. They never repeated this weird stunt, likely because they probably didn’t have many multi-volume series where they were all DVD-5

DVD-18 and even DVD-14 (5+9) do exist, but they’re rare, and likely would have been more expensive than just 2 discs. Blue Sub is unique because it was 4 discs with just half an hour each on them, a requirement of the license holder Bandai Visual
