I have never seen it in the wild until today but this dude in the coffee shop brought what amounts to my entire workspace of computer shit with him. Laptop, portable external monitor, a mouse, the works. Obnoxiously, using two tables for all his shit.

I can see using a small usb-c powered external monitor, or maybe an iPad/tablet, but bringing extra peripherals is just... too much. Yikes.

yeah 100%. It's crazy because you literally can get that same experience with a single power cable these days. Just inconsiderate, self-absorbed behavior.

Right, like, I feel guilty with my laptop. That full setup is grotesque, unless it’s a bit, in which case it is magnificent.

IMO you shouldn't feel bad with just a laptop taking up a single seat, so long as you're actually buying something. On rare times I've needed to stay at a coffee shop for an extended period of time, I've generally just bought two things at a rate of ~1/hr, so I'm supporting the business.

When I've talked with barista friends about this their position has basically been: if you're buying stuff, not taking up tons of space, and generally not being a nuisance to staff or other customers (loud, combative), you're fine.
