QQ about Dark Mode Toggles on websites How many options do you show to users? - Three values: System, Light, or Dark - Two values: Light, Dark (with one of them mapping to “System” behind the scenes). Why the one or the other? (I have an opinion about it, but I’m looking for external input)

Personally I think two values makes sense, with the initial value inheriting from the system theme. That way, it matches by default but the user can override. I suppose the only downside is if the user changes system themes regularly, and would like our site to update automatically as well?

I don't know if that's a thing; I haven't changed my system color theme in years. But maybe there are reasons that I'm just not thinking of? But really, the light/dark toggle should only save the value when it's changed. So the site will still update to match unless they override.

I change system color scheme several times per day, depending on light conditions in my office (sunlight shining through window or not) or whether I'm working outside or inside.
