Please, someone start a podcast where we hear the stories of the earlier web. I know @bkardell.com and @meyerweb.com are on board, right? Love the Igalia chats episode with @svgees.us about history of the web www.igalia.com/chats/chris-...

Hah, I think that was the time Microsoft sent a film crew from the USA to my house in the UK. We caused chaos in a pub in Windsor when they realised my office was the size of a postage stamp and not really suitable for filming.

The best thing to happen to the internet this month!!!!

CSS-Tricks has a new owner! Yes, I've got the keys to the castle, so to speak. And, even after 12 years of working on the site, I'll admit I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous about that. https://css-tricks.com/css-tricks-has-a-new-owner/

Hugops to everyone fixing their php apps today and to everyone updating certs all over the place. What a day.

Sunday morning. Diagnosing relatives' phishing email fallout. I was supposed to be building my new LEGO set.

Yesterday was world arthritis day. For me, every day is arthritis day. Over 13 years and still no medicine that can keep me stable and pain free for more than a couple of weeks. Every time the descent into pain and struggles until the next booster meds. The hopelessness is killing my spirit.

Even if I want to sell Project Wallace apparel at cost price with now aim of making money I still need to register as a business and keep track of all sales and VAT. Why can't we just print boxes full of merch just for fun? I have so many ideas.

Finally Firefox lets redeclare variables in the console, it was one of my biggest pain points when debugging with it. Thanks @lochipi.bsky.social for implementing this!

current status: wiring up the most comprehensive test suite for scraping CSS and all the possible permutations that can happen. Looking forward to write the actual implementation 😆

Project Wallace has been going strong for 13 years and I don't see it ending soon. AI has given me some new opportunities, but I keep its input small and keep the fun parts for _me_!

one great project is better than many half-baked ones you're going to lose interest in tomorrow

Doing some investigation for the analysis side. Plan for now: - new repo for data analysis - run scraper locally - upload raw css to some storage (suggestions welcome) - analyze css and store results in duckdb - commit db files to repo - commit queries to repo Hoping to make analysis reproducible

End of the year is approaching. I should probably start planning the next CSS Selection and not yolo it like I did this year. Does anyone have requests for what we should analyze?

Do you use the HTML `<meter>` element? If so when do you use it, and what kinda styling do you use? If you don't use it, are there use cases where you would but don't for some reason? If so what are those reasons.

Or let the browser make the sound of a Geiger counter every time the garbage collector runs.

Vale@vale.rocks

Rather than the sound of water trickling, which indicates a typical leak, software memory leaks can be identified by the hiss of a fan.

DO. Make! This! Happen!

Boooo. I did try and get it back once. I wonder if we could still make that work. chriscoyier.net/2024/02/28/w... I’m down to find a win-win situation, DO. Call me. 🤙

Go check this out! Several early testers found it pretty helpful and it gave them some good insights into some CSS features that they were using in a non-progressively enhanced way.

Clicking on any of the rows will take you to the actual feature being used in the CSS. One question though: are the dates in the bottom table useful, or is it enough to just show the "Widely/limited available" + icons?
