I read the first book because the weight of curiosity got to be too much and you’re absolutely correct - it’s a black mark on all of civilization, and by extension me, and I still think I might read a sequel. I can’t unpack that.

Besides the 2007 bacon humor, my biggest complaint is the structure: Words are a magic spell that puts fiction in people’s brains! Video game mechanics abstract and hide fiction. If you just tell me “I gave the llama a poison status” you have short circuit’ed of the part of words that are fun!
