great article about the playdate community getting absolutely polluted by LLM/genAI users and evangelists it's disheartening knowing how much some prominent members of the community will defend or even use it themselves, completely missing the point of such a scrappy and open indie platform

It’s sad to hear that this is starting to happen to Playdate. Is Panic doing anything to mitigate this software or at least alert users of software was written with AI tools?

they do require disclosure on the playdate catalog, so provided the person submitting is honest enough (not always the case, sadly), you'll be able to know there's also a handy browser extension that will hide games that have this ai disclosure from the catalog pages

it reminds me of how the decompilation community is steadily getting ruined by sloppers a labor of love and technical curiosity, turned into pressing the fascist-owned dopamine button for internet fame

When I decided to make programming a hobby, and not my career, it was because I couldn’t imagine writing complex code for end products I didn’t care for. The indie scene on the other hand offered a place where I could learn to code games better, for projects I actually want to make.

Seeing that now it’s increasingly just people using AI to get past the fun and interesting problems, I really don’t know what we’re even doing here. And yes, it is absolutely most repugnant on the Playdate — the scrappy little console with a crank you can make games for rather easily!
