Bonkhope isn’t really my thing, but it’s a real neat puzzler with cool use of the crank. Houm, on the other hand, feels like it was made for me and I’m really stunned that someone managed to fit an entire action based point and click game on the little yellow crank console

And not just fit one in! It has all sorts of little details that make it feel dynamic, atmospheric and eerie. It reminds me of the old Pixel Ghost Pulp games from the earlier days of the system dialed to 11

So far my concerns about quality on the eight games are quelled. Both of this week’s games are absolutely stellar. I’ve been getting this general feeling that Season 3 is showing off some of the heights of what the console is capable of. #Playdate

It’s Friday! Which means two new #Playdate games to dig into 👀

BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford “for microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation.” #NobelPrize

Critical thoughts on #Playdate season 3: So far, the games here are more ambitious than a lot of S1/S2. Gloom Gate alone blows anything I remember out of the water in scale and ambition. But it isn’t lost on me that the cost of entry to this season is unchanged, while the number of games is.

Whether I think S3 is ultimately an overall hit will depend on the ratio of how many of these games we get to big hitters like Gloom Gate. If that higher cost per game is because we have some serious quality here, then I’d be delighted.

Addendum: reminder that S2 also came with the delightful BLIPPO+ as a “freebie” surprise, which updated as the season went on. S3 is much more conventional by comparison

The second week one game, the one where you try to bath a frog without killing it (the name slips me) is polished and fun but much more in line with the score-chasing arcade games of S1/S2.

This is especially noteworthy in the current context of both the Playdate and (indie) hardware! The price of the device is up $30, many paid tariffs on it (which Panic did refund, to their credit) and shipping anything from Panic still costs as much as what you’re buying.

And that’s if you can find anything: as it stands, the Playdate has been out of stock for months while Panic reconfigures its suppliers. With an 8 game, $40 season, it’s hard not to wonder if we’re helping keeping cash flow non-negative for the Playdate project.

More thoughts on #GloomGate from #Playdate season 3: having learned how the 3D effect is achieved has me only more impressed. But with a few hours of play, this is also just an excellently designed game and some of the most fun I’ve had on my Playdate since getting it

Gloom Gate is stunningly technically impressive for the little crank console — and I love the Infinity Blade inspiration! #playdate

If you didn’t know: Tom Cruise does his own stunts. For example, in Digger (2026), he undermines my thesis that Primetime is the media literacy test of the decade during a runtime of 129 minutes

Hey @bsky.app just checking in. Any plans for proper iPadOS support? The app is really inconvenient to use on my iPad Pro which is where I do most of my social media stuff

Why doesn’t Bluesky have an iPad app yet? This is so silly

Took the dive and bought Season 3 mostly for Sound Mind and the point and click game they showed off. Promising myself I won’t spoil things further. Maybe we’ll get some cheeky weekly reviews out of me #playdate
