I enjoy the TellTale Sam and Max games a lot more than the LucasArts original. Their shtick works so much better in smaller doses.

The TT games evolved Sam & Max into true comedic point and click icons with the iconic absurdity we know them for. Nowadays Hit The Road feels like a sort of incubator for what was really coming.

Plus the format of case of the week/episode all turning out connected by the end plays so well into detective stories

I got tired a bit of the episodic format with them in the first season. Okay new episode, what whacky conspiracy is Bosco coming up with this time? It was too repetitive. Found its way by third season though

Bosco's changing conspiracies and Sybil's changing careers were a good way to introduce new types of characters without having to create new models every episode. They were on a budget, and it showed! That said, the first season was definitely the weakest.

The third season is frigging trancendent. Does such clever things with the point-and-click formula. Clever things that would've worn out their welcome in a longer game
