What means "effectively" conceded? Can't he just concede the normal way? Whatever happened to politicians taking it on the chin and just congratulating their opponent and thanking their supporters?

Hmm... Why is it that a sovereign nation has an election that hangs in the balance because the president of a foreign country will or won't intervene in the outcome? Should we be asking the same question of Vladimir Putin? Victor Orban? Viktor Yanukovich? Donald Trump?

Won’t intervene? What was he going to do, invade the country like he did in Venezuela or like what he is doing to Cuba, Iran and so many other countries? This would be despot and fascist needs to be done with now.

Trump probably decided he wouldn’t intervene when he realised it was the son and not the father that just ran in Brazil, and it would set a precedent for him to help one of his doofus sons access the gilded throne he built for himself alone! 😆

Also, Brazil has a significant military, and it still is largely on Lula's side, at least the officer corps. The US, for all it's presumed might, cannot intervene in Brazil without paying a much higher price that whatever it has in bank.
