West Midlands Railways comes into public ownership today. That's great news. But it's only part of the journey. There are 4 ways our railways could be made better so they truly deliver what passengers want, not private shareholders. 1/3

1 Bring Rolling Stock into public ownership 2 Fare reduction 3 Re-opening closed lines 4 Listen to passengers, and give them a voice. 2/3

1 : Agreed, and standardise across the network, allowing better deals to be struck with manufacturers for "bulk orders" for rolling renewals. 2: Fare simplification, and reduction. Vital that you can book a ticket from A to B without using 3 different websites, or a 3rd party agent taking a big cut

3: Reopen closed lines where there is a need. Don't forget Beeching's shortsighted view that a branch line, often not making much money, feeds customers to the main line. 4: Agree 1000%.

@cathobbs.bsky.social You might find labour candidate Angeliki Stogia's stance on public ownership of infrastructure interesting Thread on Angeliki Stogia: bsky.app/profile/labo...

Exposing the Labour Right 🥀✊🇵🇸@labourrightwatch.bsky.social

Instead of Burnham, Labour have anointed Angeliki Stogia for #GortonAndDenton. Yet again, they try to force a corporate stooge (a lobbyist) into office instead of someone who stands for the rights + wellbeing of citizens. She was IDed as a lobbyist in 2024 archive.ph/r1nnA

Can I add… 5 Call us ‘passengers’ not ‘customers’ 6 Stop using the phrase ‘station stop’ - it’s a station! 7 Enough of this ‘See it say it sorted’ drivel.

Can I add, move the south west line back to its original route as in the more regular and wet 💦 🌧️ climate chaos induced storms, the dawlish coast cliffs are starting to fall, or at least become impassable more often, making rail London <> Cornwall unreliable.
