Be super-cautious about this podcast, please. The first season has created real problems by encouraging some absolutist thinking about reading instruction. For instance: screwing over deaf kids like my son: deafcenter.bu.edu/post/reading...

I am sorry to hear that. That was not the case in my region for Deaf students. But thank you for the resource.

NY - I cannot speak to leg but did do a quick google which indicates it has not yet been passed. I can only speak to my experience working with Deaf Ss as I did so in a previous district which had Deaf Edu K-12 and collaborating with the Ts in that program. I would never claim to be an expert.

I mention LEAD-K because it mandates tracking deaf student acheivement; v.useful to gauge overall care in the school system. But that loops back around to my general point about Sold a Story—One Big Idea can often push other important ideas out of the picture, and that's what we've seen w/ phonics.
