After the largest peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations in American history, and a blue wave election where voters clearly and loudly said FIGHT ALL OF THIS CHAOS, it is malpractice and disqualifying for an elected Democrat to suggest caving to Trump. I'm looking in your direction, Chuck Schumer.

But Schumer didn't suggest this. He suggested the opposite. He voted for the opposite. So it's unfair to blame Schumer for these things. You can blame Schumer for failing to keep his caucus together, I suppose, but it's unclear whether any other leader could have done that in these circumstances.

This is the complete opposite of what actually happened. All of this originated with Schumer. If he wanted to stop it, he could have "used his considerable power and influence" to stop it, according to a senate staffer who was there. He wanted this, and he got what he wanted. Now we all pay for it.

And just for the record, there was, is, and continues to be zero evidence that any of this "originated" with Schumer. I get wanting a scapegoat. Blame the Dems that voted the way you don't like and work to get them removed. Schumer isn't some magical god-king Oz. He doesn't have control of this.

Maybe we will pay for it. Maybe. I think it's just as likely that the shutdown will end up having been a net positive for Dems. Consider: Trump's ratings tanked, the election was a blue wave, and the shutdown seems to have clarified, for many voters, where the two parties stand.

You think all the very complex statements those Senators have publicly made to explain their votes were all fabricated, and the real reason is 100% Schumer? I'm sorry. That's ludicrous.

Just going to clarify this one more time: It's childish to assume that Schumer magically controlled all these votes and somehow "used" 8 sitting Senators to "cover his ass". Childish. You think 8 people took a very unpopular vote just to save Schumer and there's a conspiracy to keep it quiet? Silly.

To be fair, Pelosi never had to herd the Senate. It's a different animal. You don't actually know whether Schumer or any leader could have prevented these particular votes under this particular combination of pressures and circumstances, facing an opposition that does. not. care about the damage.

Senate Dems need to get tougher! Schumer has shown his belly to this administration a number of times. McConnell ruled his party with an iron fist during his years as a Minority Leader. It's time for Schumer to fight dirty or give the position over to someone like Bernie or Warren.

The No Kings rally great, but let's not overestimate their influence here. There are far more, party-less AND ignorant of what's going on who don't care if it's the Dems or Trump, they want to eat, they want to see their families in a few weeks. Schumer and Jeffries job begins now...

People need to be much more respectful to Chuck Schumer. To be able to function at all after having his spine removed is a remarkable accomplishment. I just wish he would function someplace besides the US Senate.

We might not be in this situation if ppl like you didn't use your audience to promote the idea that voting third party is a wasted vote. We need a strong third party to break this nonsense. If you could go back would you consider Gary Johnson or stick on the Unelectable-Hillary-Train? The same coin.

Chuck Schumer didn't cave! Come on, Wil, be smarter! It was a master class in political ploy. He laid a trap and the GOP walked right in it. There was NO CHANCE the GOP would take them up on it, and now Schumer and Dems have them on record, undermining any argument that this is the Dem's fault.

There’s a different read on this: Putting a one-year extension of the ACA into the budget would require the House to come back in session and that would force Johnson to swear in Grijalva, which in turn would force the Discharge Petition on the Epstein Files.

They're past that.

Senate Democrats asked for a year of ACA subsidies and were told to fuck off. So they came back and asked for a pinky promise to hold a vote on ACA subsidies that they will assuredly lose? Seriously?

But, what if his imaginary Republicans tells him to cave? Then he has to, right? Imaginary opinions outweigh actual constituent opinions, or so I am told by Chuck.

I also find it fascinating that it's happening on a Sunday when most people are out doing things or watching football, and won't notice until they read the paper in the morning or catch the news tonight. Anger doesn't even begin to describe my emotions.
