Skype is a telecommunication app acquired by Microsoft in 2011. Integrated in Windows from Windows 8 (2012) to 10 (2015), in 2013, it replaced Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger). In February 2025, Microsoft announced Skype would be shutting down & replaced by Teams.

Well, Skype is a timeless classic, it's mostly worked over its existence, it's kinda easy to setup, use and configure, and you don't need an enterprise or business account to use it. Teams on the other hand is not anything like Skype, it's slow, obtrusive and obtuse, and is very inefficient.

i really don’t understand if i’m just unlucky with Skype and lucky with Teams or something but i would literally describe them the same way you did, just with Skype and Teams switched

Their rebranding from Office Communicator to Skype for Business was very depressing and the first step into the fat broken UI The Office Communicator wasn't amazing, but was responsive with a clean, readable interface. SfB was laggy, wasted too much screen and would lock up when someone called you.
