The horror of Americans having to live with what they have.... we throw away our stuff way too soon. I was shocked at how resourceful less developed countries are to fix, instead of scrap and buy new. Of course, we always have to be forced by calamity to change. Well, here we go!

It's a stretch, I agree. Doing *one* right thing would be a step forwards.

I'm so glad we bought a used Chevy Bolt EV in August and a new Chevy Equinox EV in November. Said goodbye to gas and we bought both of them for less than $30k after rebates. Buy an EV now while you can. Just don't buy a Tesla

Depends on where you live. I don't live in a civilized area (Texas). They all still think "Murica is just better!" I suspect many know better - but they all drive Dodge, GM, or Ford ...Mercedes/ BMW if money. You probably don't hear the N word several times/week...lucky me

I had a friend (whose dad was a literally brain damaged Christian nationalist with an Israeli flag on their porch) but who would only drive Mitsubishi. my mom had the same Subaru for 22 years.

IMHO cars haven't been affordable since the early 90s.

Say goodbye to America then, this infrastructure is setup for cars exclusively and people can’t afford them now.

As if $30,000 is affordable. Don't get me wrong probably it's good that we move away from individual private automobiles. But I'm sort of guessing we're not going to beef up public transit

Some of that blame lies on the poorly written efficiency laws.

Meither Trump nor anyone around him knows that cars are put togewther with parts made from around tha globe. General tolerance standards like ISO2768 means that the exact part can be made anywhere to the same exacting standards. But this dumbbell in the WH doesnt know that.

It will be like Asia, highways and roads full of scooters and small motorcycles!

Under $30k wasn’t affordable. Under $20k maybe.
