Storing observers in a Palantir database is the part that sticks with me. Watching and documenting is legal, so logging someone for it feels less like surveillance of a threat and more like a threat in itself.

Another important difference is that back in the day, the FBI could only monitor so many people at once; they didn't have the staff or resources to keep detailed real-time dossiers on every single American. Now with the help of the tech billionaires we're all living under 24/7 surveillance.
