I used to work in IT & I struggle to imagine how a loud place full of largely identical racks of servers with wires and blinking lights is worth a bus ride. How are you going to explain stuff to kids with all that racket? Gonna show them the polluted water & dead marine life, too?

I hope to see those big buildings repurposed into housing for those in need, as well as community gathering places- for people of all ages- physical fitness designs & indoor play and learn environments, for people in climates where winter weather forces people indoors.

At least at my field trip to the Navajo Generating Station (peace be upon its remains) 50 years ago, there was interesting stuff to look at. Can't imagine what there might be to see at a data center.

i would imagine a hot “backrooms” style massive room with noisy humming machines and odd chemical smells flickering fluorescent lights.

Great idea! Send large groups of bored 7th graders into a place where there’s nothing interesting to look at but lots of expensive equipment to damage. This’ll be fine, I’m sure. 😏

"here's why your electric bills are high and why your computers are double the price they should be!" The first and last trip ends with the kids setting off the sprinkler system.
