Every single part of the entire current digital media landscape was envisioned as part of what was called “blogs” at the start. Tweets, Instagram, reels, sharing your morning run with someone, knowing whether your crush had looked at your story, control over sharing to a community — all of it.

Blogs so didn't suck at scale that they, arguably and defensibly, ate the news environment and publishing. We are still living in the age of the blogger, present company included. To be clear. Your influencer/independent journo/networked politico etc etc -- blogging.

So true. When I wrote "Say Everything" in 2007-8 I thought I was capturing all that for a tech/media world plunging into the social era. Like, "Here's a decadeful of lessons! Have at it!" But there was little interest. It's so much easier to keep saying "Everything is new! It's Year 0! Let's build!"
