Post

from the datacrystal nonsense a bit ago, the person behind it finally posted their raw notes (along with a big angry allcaps "don't ever use this for tcrf" note 😄)... and like, if they had just posted these in the first place, everything would've been gravy! these look fine!

longtime friend basically taught me how to mod sm64 characters in before the blender tools and we shared notes in similar formatting as we did things by mostly hand

I'm not trying to be condescending or anything either, these are exactly like the kind of notes I take when I'm pulling apart things! all of this over things that never needed to be done in the first place. it's frustrating.

in the Before Times, people would either not post them, or (ideally) post what they had — ROM hacking is a collaborative effort. if it was incomplete, it was still *something*. but now, people will ask the ai to finish it, instead of recognizing their limits and letting others step in.

this is one of those worrying culture things that i'm not sure how to really fix. DC's standards are "it's an info dump, dump info". but they still thought they had to make things pretty and fancy, even though DC has countless examples of
notepad file
.

I mean, shit, even a lot of Nesdev articles are just "someone's notepad notes wrapped in a pre block" (a lot of the more obscure mapper pages, for example), but... that's still one of the top-tier references out there. nobody needed to prettify the text. it's a reference.

This has impelled me to put something that's been sitting in my Notes collection for a while now on the wiki. I initially intended to do… *something* with it but never got around to it.

I am curious what this person's intent and expectation is now that this has been posted, as to what... yknow.. people will do with these notes
