I've always #gamedev using a bottom-up approach where I code some features and then integrate some art for them, but lately I have been thinking of what it meant to use a top down approach (making the art and animations first) how do you research and experiment features, with more artwork?

I feel like either method has its time and place, no? Bottom-up makes sense when it's testing a brand new feature; then top-down for overall game look/feel & mechanics? It's definitely easier showing someone a new feature when it has pretty pictures, sadly.

💯 sometimes it's pretty clear in my head and working on nice looking assets is nice. Sometimes I am experimenting and the bottom up approach feels more fast paced.
