Not sure that qualifies as ai use. This is just applying algorithms on data. The algorithms seem straightforward… same we’d have used in 1960

Did you read the description of how he did it? He had Claude write all the code and do the analysis. Yes, he asked the questions, and had Claude use bog-standard algorithms. This is how most technical people use AI today. We ask it questions and tell it to write code to do work.

you're hallucinating that, sorry. you can get access to models 95% as good as Anthropic / OpenAI who serve *open-weight* models basically at cost (look on Fireworks.ai, Together.ai, etc) and it's even cheaper than the top labs.

as someone who spent most of his 20's in grad school, there is basically 0% chance I'd have been interested in picking up cheap labor work for randos who wanted me to do physics / math calculations for them on whatever they wanted me to poke at. that's not what grad school is for.
