What is *with* the so common need to be *special*? Center of Universe, center of solar system, made in Gods Image, Chosen People, special magic qualia… The wide open universe *more* exciting, to me, imagining meaning is what we make of it, and we are just descendants of a slime mold on some rock.

Many religions have advanced philosophy, mathematics, the idea of “study” itself, yes! Would still be nice if we could appreciate the sheer amazingness of the universe without needing to feel “special”

We all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon, the saying goes. When we are true individuals, we admire that same sky alone

I don’t think we need to be hyper individualistic. Just recognize that random chance leading to our current state doesn’t make the universe any less amazing. There doesn’t need to be a “purpose” from elsewhere, or a “design”. Totally unnecessary and paternalistic, frankly.

This is true! Babies are solipsists, toddlers are selfish tyrants, and teenagers are perhaps still a wee bit self-centered. The process of “growing up” is one of realizing the illusion of being the center of the universe is just that. I just wish we could like, maybe *keep* growing up?

I’m not too thrilled about dying, either. And that doesn’t explain why anti-AI people are stumbling headfirst into dualism and biological essentialism, I don’t think

Human tradition ;) Instinct, it could even be tribalism with LLM being the 'other'. Who knows, it certainly isn't pragmatic thought

Yes, this provincial fear of the other gets coupled to a “moral”: we historically killed The Other, out of fear. Later we layered on justification to soothe our guilt: We are “better”, that’s why it’s ok. We are “special”. Other is not. Maybe we should grow past the Neolithic at some point?
