“To leave no loopholes Hitler exacted from all officers and men of the armed forces an oath of allegiance—not to Germany, not to the constitution, which he had violated by not calling for the election of Hindenburg’s successor, but to himself.” -Shirer, Rise & Fall of the Thrid Reich, p. 375

Trump: "Please right your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can't even breath. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I'll do it any way - I don't care if I'm registered or not, I'm going to try to cheat like hell..."

Evil then. Evil now. But don’t compare trump to Hitler! (Sarcasm). Bull. The same hate. The same movement. The same actions. The same.

Shirer’s account of Hitler forcing soldiers to swear loyalty to him over the constitution mirrors dangerous trends. Demanding personal allegiance over institutional duty transforms public service into political patronage, eroding the rule of law from within.

Took a college class that had a lot of excerpts as assignments. Definitely one of the best classes I took at U of I. I think about that professor often. She must be flabbergasted and deeply disturbed by this as we all are.

Also it was 2001-2002 so all that was going on too. War on Terror. We often discover our mistakes too late even when there are ample warnings.

An oath to cheat in an election administered by the president of the United States. This actually happened last night, and it is the most treasonous, office-abusing, presidential oath-breaking offense against the United States that i can even imagine.
