it’s become so normal for people to disclose their rapes to appeal to people’s humanity around rape cases that we don’t think about how disgusting the need to do that is put the worst moment of your life out for public consumption, so that half the comments can call you a liar.

every time i see someone do it i have such admiration for them and such disgust at a society that demands this, that demands to be reminded of the fact that their moms, daughters, wives have also probably been raped, in order to acknowledge that survivors are fucking human

In every one of those cases what sticks out to me is the lack of guilt. There never is a "oh shit did I do something wrong?" or an acknowledgement that the victim is in distress.

There's something wrong with humanity when a victim of assault has to humanize themselves by sharing their pain before most people will care, and that they have to appeal to the public in an attempt to get justice because the people who are supposed to protect them only serve to silence them.
