That line "from its inception" does a lot of work, because a lot of people treat this history like it started and ended at a few famous events. The part about the children is the one that stays with me.

I bought this on preorder and my daughter and I are taking it (and a few others) with us on our upcoming “museum trip” to DC. I think it’s important to have the correct lens to accompany any intake of large amounts of the default American narrative (for lack of a better term).
