"massively level skills at virtually no effort" is such a paradoxical statement. skills are literally the results of putting in effort.

Genuinely, this is what bothers me the most, it's fundamentally changed my relationship with art where I'm greeting it initially with skepticism and scrutiny, I never want to feel that way about art.

The feeling of questioning whether or not something is AI as part of its destruction of all visual art

multitudes of community members have remarked how demotivating it is to share work alongside LLM content that can be pumped out with 0 effort. This is the same shit that is destroying visibility of indie games. Legitimately how tonedeaf can yall be here?

you either are supporting synthetic content, or you are supporting artists. you can't have it both ways - so maybe at the very least be honest.

is this what it looks like to build a community of creatives? is this what it looks like to attract artists? serious questions!

the absolute funniest, and possibly best, outcome of this AI nonsense is that america deskills every professional, china dominates the AI market, and we're forced to endlessly fund their tech sector for the rest of time

in reality we'd probably just ban the superior model as a "foreign intelligence threat" and do the good old american thing we do for suntan lotion and toothpaste - its worse here, but it's ours!

i used to excitedly wonder, what the first popular or successful game with bevy would look like. Turns out, AI projects. Who could possibly still care except those paying a subscription.

"avoid success at all costs" is rather smart tbh. success in this context is the one we immediately think of when our brains are poisoned by capitalism - financial, commercial, popular success. These should never be goals, only side-effects.

anyways, this is a time to be optimistic, that from the burnt ashes of LLM slop and defense contractors we can build tooling that not only builds community but resists this technofascism that ruins everything we love

lastly, if your project cannot survive without taking money from defense contractors or other tech interests, it simply shouldnt exist. you are not a FOSS project, you are the volunteer propaganda arm of Microsoft.

i dont like zig as a language. i love rust. but i hate rust's new frontier as a Claude VM for people who hate the language. Literally the opposite of rusts mission statement. Why did it get so bad? Corporate donations and use, pretty much.

rust used to be exciting! now nothing can happen lest a change breaks a platinum sponsor's preferred build pipeline. if u don't think there is a relation and orgs can keep these interests separate, u are naive. If you are an org leader and think this, you shouldn't be leading a community. Be a CEO

im just kinda completely done with #bevy. burned out by too little too late when im already dealing with these psychopath ai pushers at my job and this is just further proof they dont care. carts apology is too little too late. appreciated but means nothing now.

ive been active in the rust gamedev community since amethyst. i think im finally about to give up on rust too. its become petrified in corposlop, exactly the kind of organizational rot that andrew kelly talks about in his SOTU talk.

it is genuinely amazing how long professional artists managed to survive under a system that devalues them and cares only about end product and aesthetics. but can you even imagine going to school for illustration now? legitimately what job prospects are there for traditional artists anymore.

it is really gut wrenching seeing the language i love becoming the ✨AI-native✨ choice, because evidently LLMs benefit from how great rustc errors and hinting is, and in the same space see how much rust vibecoders actively hate the language and find its only tolerable to use by proxy

rust is now the virtual machine for claude programs and people like DHH who remark "I like Rust best when I never have to look at the code" while bragging that they pump out hundreds of thousands of lines of rust monthly

i posted an epiphany i had about why i hate AI so much on fedi and i wanna post it here but it won't fit and i don't wanna cut it down to size so fuckit i'm just posting a screenshot

the ai enshittification of rust vs zig makes sense. rust is suffering from success, and the Thought and Community leaders in the space are professionally tied to rust creates a conflict of interest between community project leads and their livelihood. (to not vaguepost: talking about steve and amos)

the lesson im learning from this is corporate sponsorship is where language organizations go to die. we should be thinking about how to best separate corporate interests from work that is explicitly an escape from all that bullshit.

im excited to see people finding jobs writing a language they enjoy but i also feel like the popularity of rust in that space is ultimately killing the ability to innovate beyond what already exists. i mean im surprised we even got never types. but sad to see rust go the way of javascript, basically

zig has a lot less of this problem bc far fewer people are using zig professionally, so the majority of llm use is happenstance and not really structural, and it allows andrew to be like "no lol fuck ai" in a way rust cant because of its corporate ties.

i keep seeing this strange refrain in defense of ai contributions-"i'd rather some 15 year old get into coding with AI than shut them down". and ignoring the fact that the described scenario is hellworld, are we really thinking the people able to afford a $200 a month claude code sub are teenagers??

i wonder if its irritating being an onion writer and seeing 90% of social media reacts to your article being some variation of this

google is a company with near unlimited resources and operates with its best interests in mind, which indicates they believe they can safely bet the average user doesn't care about this - which IMO is the most worrying thing.

from mass-scale theft for algorithm training to stealth installs of borderline malware, ai bros understanding consent challenge (impossible)

this platform is actually just x with new owners (bad). mastodon did get a lot right, like hiding likes and generally having no active users

see this is the kind of purposefully antisocial behavior these apps create. it is engrained in english social media. i dont see anything this insanely egotistical elsewhere.
