Genius is a comparative word, standing on the shoulders of idiots. Seriously. An Individual/Action/Creation is Genius when compared to a large number of poor quality/outcome actions. Without the LARGE number of failures, Genius label won't apply. #philsky
David Treuer wrote enjoyable comedy. "Reservations" are 'known' as a place Indian's live off Gov't handouts. As a young adult, David announces he's from a Reservation, and is then surprised when people assume he is only 'alive' due to the effort of others, rather than his own hard work.
Per Aristotle: "Friendship" at a minimum requires two people to have mutual goodwill, plus the knowledge (in both parties) that the goodwill wish is mutual. #philsky #friendship classics.mit.edu/Aristotle/ni...
Looking to further your #philsky education? This is a good article to learn more. Note - beginners will find this too difficult/boring. plato.stanford.edu/archives/fal... #philosophy
"The idea that the mind plays an active role in structuring reality is so familiar to us now that it is difficult for us to see what a pivotal insight this was for Kant." Hilariously false. Few people truly 'know' the mind plays an active role in structuring reality. #philpsy
Pondering the @wired.com article.... What is our responsibility to others? When must the individual labor to ensure the survival of other(s)? #abortion
Why was the Southern Tier Double IPA half the price of all other beers at @wegmansofficial.bsky.social Glad I got #beer for a good price, but confused.
Thinking more on Anscombe's concept of Injustice, there's a language problem. The word has 2 definitions. Morality and the Legal System. By Def 2, the Legal System can never be injust. By Def 1, a man could be convinced of breaking a law he technically didn't break #philsky #moralphilosophy
Elizabeth Anscombe's article Modern Moral Philosophy is annoyingly difficult to read. She loves double negatives. She's also convinced me all judgements on Ethics are a form of Consequentialism. #philsky #moralphilosophy
Disappointing; when an individual proudly notes their Educational Credentials, but rejects considering the respectful viewpoint of others. Fine to disagree, call someone wrong, or close them off if they're insulting. But to slam the door because you dislike their idea is sad @tlknoell.bsky.social
Don't understand the Necktie Paradox difficulty. Assuming there's 6 or more people, and 3 or more of each color.... You (forcefully if needed) push people together who have the same color. Once everyone else is correctly colored, pick a group at random, and see if they accept you. #philsky
College has 2 purposes. Credentialing. And providing an education. The number of educational providers is increasing and continues to increase. Open courses, AI and YouTube video's are all methods to gain knowledge.
"The spread of colleges into towns and cities across the country, which put a degree within reach of a growing share of the public, is one of the triumphs of postwar America," Jeffrey Selingo writes. "We’re now at risk of the process playing out in reverse."
Damp Sugar is harder than Glass. Thankfully, nothing important (my coffee) was damaged in this discovery.
Reading up on #Habermas Agree with the Wiki writer that "growth of a commercial mass media, has turned the critical public into a passive consumer public" FoxNews is like heroin. Their goal is keeping you attention, to both sell ads, and make you support them. #Philosophy #Philosophie
Enjoyed @faith-hill.bsky.social @theatlantic.com article, but surprised this: "the bizarre idea of forcing a frightened little boy onto a roller coaster" Details matter, but providing 'protection' to this young boy is something a good parent does. This feeling of safety allows for risk taking.
Why is the Super Bowl, with lots of kids watching, starting their add run with a Stabbing?
We had the Dean Scream, why not the Trump Dump?
Pondering @davephilipps.bsky.social awesome article, and the simple goals of Warfare. 1. Prohibit enemy troop freedom of movement. 2. Enable freedom of movement for your troops. Interesting to learn the M1E3 has "radar-guided automatic interceptors". If works, would allow freedom of movement.
Reading The Art of Loving, and I'm like usual questioning the historical assumption. "In many traditional cultures, love was mostly not a spontaneous personal experience which then might lead to marriage." Where is the data regarding Source of Spouse in the ancient era?
