Here to spread word there's no better place than Rhode Island to explore historic cities and seaside New England by walking, rolling and transit!

1 hour riding a bus in NJ: have been delayed passing cleanups of 2 separate wrecks, and one minor crash, observing every driver in traffic engaged with a phone except the ones engaged with 2

Only one component of this project is likely to measurably improve service from any rider's point of view: Connecting Exchange street to Gaspee st will shorten a few routes by several minutes.

Paper map users gain various perspectives on given territories by reading maps at different scales, with different editorial emphases. Adaptable functional awareness of the reality you inhabit is indispensable to personal autonomy. Don't surrender to One Map to Rule Us All.

The scheme became obvious: Capture all the winnings owing to the creativity of so called independent sellers by pitting them against each other in an auction for clicks.

Worse, closely guarded data about search behavior reveals which innovations are on their way to being significant hits early enough for amazon to front page their own knock offs before the actual creators realize how they are ripped off.

My plan to re-use the Crook Point Bridge: 1. Remove the "Stuck up" part. Rehabilitate the remaining structure and deck it for bikes and people. Build a lightweight drawbridge span. Key link in low-stress bike route from downtown to East Providence. ecori.org/crook-point-...

There is no art like street art if the goal is to be seen by more eyeballs every day than if your painting were in a museum! And it's fun. We will see plenty on my Janes Walk, 10:30am Saturday May 2. Meet outside White Electric, 711 Westminster St. Providence #RhodeIsland

Exactly one week from now you can be strolling by and chatting about dozens of exuberant art works if you join my Jane's Walk "Street Art of the West and South Sides" in Providence #RhodeIsland. Meet 10:30am outside White Electric on Westminster.

Statistics can leave out what's most important. Traffic casualties are easy to measure. But even while no one in the neighborhood is bleeding, "Parents don't let their kids play outside" constitutes 24/7/365 damage to everyone's well being. No dollar figure or statistic reflects that so 🤷‍♀️.

Politics of Cars@thismachinekillsfascists.bike

American traffic "engineers" would learn more from walking and biking to get a sense of how safe streets feel, than looking at statistics. If everyone else avoids a street because drivers are overwhelmingly dangerous, and thereby avoids being hit, that does not make it safe.

The hostile design - "make people walk past random shops as much as possible on their way to the movies or wherever they want to go" is the biggest reason people hate going there. 🧵

If you are a mile and a half or less from the mall you can walk there and back in less time than it takes to drive, find a space, walk in from and back to your space, exit the garage and drive home.

If there were safe direct biking infrastructure, almost everyone for miles around would be able to travel to and from that mall (not to mention the train station and the rest of downtown) much faster than is now possible.

That and the clumsy garage layout which eschewed a convenient traffic pattern in order to fit more parking spaces into the structure which is never fills up anyway.

The drama, stress and especially expense of snowstorms are mostly on account of motor vehicles. Imagine how cheap and prompt cleanup could be if only sidewalks had to be done. Inexcusable that the city's efforts always worsen access for people who do not own a car yet pay no less in taxes.

Overlooked factor in the Driving After This Snowstorm Is The Worse Ever shambles: Everyone's car is a few feet longer and wider than the one they had last time it snowed this much and did not melt right away.

If sledding at Neutaconkanut Hill is unsafe, the job of the parks department is to landscape, gate and manage it so it can be used safely not just put up No Sledding signs and walk away.

Stormwater treatment would be a much smaller problem if not for excessive space devoted to cars. It's one of many cost burdens conveniently omitted from our deliberately obscure accounting of what actually gets spent to provide "Freeways" and "Free parking."

Dear folks who say "I would use transit if it went from my house to my job:" That could be easily arranged (the hard part is done) if you live and work in a red area. Everywhere else, the best you might do is park and ride into a red area. Everywhere else is hopelessly car dependent for now.

We are expected to accept death and injury on our streets, parents afraid to let children walk or bike in their neighborhood, as if the the only alternative was an utterly unrealistic ban on cars. That is a straw man. They die because cars go over twice as fast as anything else in the city.

Think about that. People not in cars must die, be injured, and contend with constant stress in order that people traveling in cars may go faster than people not in cars.
