I’m brown-paper-bag-as-a-book-cover old. Do kids still do this? And did everybody draw that cool S on theirs?

The dot-matrix printer paper had perforated strips with holes along both edges. The trick was getting one off in a single piece.

Remember recording songs off the radio to make the perfect mixtape? You’d hit record just as the song started, and the DJ would still be talking over it: “This one goes out to…” Play that tape enough times and you’d expect to hear the DJ every time. Photo: antony_mayfield (CC BY 2.0).

The TV Guide Channel wouldn’t let you scroll back. If you missed the row you needed, you sat through every other channel again. Sometimes the show started while you were still looking for it.

Tonight I'm playing three conspiracy tapes from before the algorithm. - A lecture sold at the Roswell UFO Museum gift shop - A prophecy video from a ministry catalog - Final Warning, 666 on the barcode 9 PM ET twitch.tv/90s_craig Bring a flashlight.

Help needed! @90scraig.com and I are searching for a full VHS recording of the WABC broadcast of the Giants vs Washington Monday Night Football game from Nov. 18, 1985. This would be the NY media market recording. If you have any leads, please let one of us know!

Recently got a 1992 Walt Disney Imagineering VHS labeled "Mickey’s Surprise Party Tape". I expected generic B-roll, a stage show, or the old cartoon. Instead, it was a private dinner celebrating Euro Disneyland and Mickey Steinberg, Imagineering’s executive vice president, 6 weeks before it opened

Found this internal Imagineering tape called Mickey’s Surprise Party. It came with a WDI executive’s portfolio and appears to have belonged to another Imagineering VP. I have several theories and confidence in none of them. Disney history people: what am I looking at? @lostmediawiki.com

I got tired of TV shows and movies cluttering up my commercials, so I built software that deletes them automatically. Fed it a 4:46:46 tape rip. Got back 22 minutes of ads. The other 4.5 hours? Gone. As intended. Should I release it? Sample: youtu.be/vLCmeiwF9JU

I normally don't condone learning on stream, but tonight we're going to buy stuff cheap at government auctions! Also, this tape is still in its original wrapper. We're going to be the first ones to watch it! #vhs #physicalmedia #twitch

Tonight's tape: I don't know what "Memphis 3rd Mobile" is but I'm guessing it's some local pager service or something. #vhs #technology

The label says Stingray, ALF, and Remington Steele on a Maxell tape from the late 80s. Also "news about teachers strike" because somebody wanted the local news segment too. Will the label keep its promises or did Mom tape over ALF with Jazzercise? We find out at 9PM ET on Twitch.

Every wonder what it was like to sit and watch the TVs at Radio Shack? Now we can go back and experience it again!

Today's pickup Mike Warnke: Out of My Mind on VHS. If you know the name, you know he has quite the checkered past.

Married with Children - Lost Episode Could this be an original broadcast of "I'll See You in Court" that wasn't aired in the US until 13 years after it was produced?

Tonight we study the sacred art of Drywall-ogy, on Workers' Memorial Day. 90s_Craig, Twitch, tonight 9PM ET. Brought to you by Chevy #vhs #twitch

Just in time for summer beach trips, I found what appears to be Quentin Toe-rantino’s lost film: Barefoot Without Embarrassment.

Programming a VCR was so confusing they made a second device to handle it “VCR Co-Pilot” Set the day, spin a dial, and it tells your VCR what to do like it’s managing it

Yesterday: shorts and flip flops because it was 75 Today: shorts and flip flops because I already committed Dang Ohio weather

Happy Taco Tuesday! I saw this thing at the thrifts over the weekend. I'm not sure that it's actually useful, but I like where their head is at

Streaming tonight: trueSpace 4.0 Character Modeling VHS. in 1998 someone at Caligari left the trueSpace 4.0 source code sitting on a public FTP server. A piracy group found it and released it. The software is on the Internet Archive. This VHS is not. Tonight we find out what's on it.

I see people ask a lot about how to digitize old VHS and family recordings. Check your local library! This is in Nashville but a lot of libraries have similar programs I respect people getting set up to digitize, but if you only have a few items go somewhere that's already got it dialed in

Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot. 2 Hours. Is this raw footage? A highlight reel? Did someone bring a camcorder and just… film it? Was this sold at an event? I have so many questions.

These ministry tapes are their own little corner of VHS culture and I love them. Post-Cold War panic. Biblical prophecy. St. Peter's Basilica floating in space on the cover. 1994 was something else.

Daylight savings means it's time to watch time travel movies! Back to the Future is the obvious call (it's my favorite) but "be excellent to each other" is the message the world needs right now.

50 states. 50 tapes. Each one has to have a local call sign on it or it doesn't count. Canada and other countries are fair game too. P.O. Box is open. Tag whoever has a dusty box of VHS tapes.

Bummed The Last Drive-In is over. Joe Bob's closing message was about filmmakers and that the world needs more horror hosts. Felt like it applied to anyone keeping something weird alive. What I heard was: "90s Craig, keep playing the tapes. The world needs you"
