they didn't lose game 3 by exactly 11 runs so I think it's over

Micah@rincewind.run

anyway, last year you learned that postseason baseball can be a stressful seven game slugfest balanced on a knife’s edge this year, well sometimes one team just puts the other one in the dirt

the orange shitstain: vote as if I'm on the ballot serbia: у реду brazil: te entendo

the orange turd has long left this reality but elon is very much aware of what the consequences of his actions are especially since they are occurring immediately if there is any justice left in the world, I would like it to please come to the rich nazi toddler first

I can write better code than the llms the llms are better at finding out why the login filter started making weird redirects in some cases after migrating spring security to the next release inasmuch as the job involves coding rather than wrangling third-party APIs, we are ok question is, does it

Micah@rincewind.run

"I will not touch anything with ai-generated code" is going to mean, in pretty short order, "I will not touch software" this is just functionally what software development is now and it's only going to accelerate from here

the interesting detail here is that just as I started to notice consistent failures in my attempts to blend into elementary school societal structure, I managed to shunt into the environment where I was decidedly on the lower level of weirdness scale (the country's leading math magnet school)

Gail Simone@gailsimone.bsky.social

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

where I proceeded, for that reason, to not fit for the next 4 years, until graduation, while internalizing my new peers as normal so the realization was necessarily coupled with coming to acknowledge that my formative years were spent inside an asylum which took some time

it will never not astonish me how the wave function collapse manages to so break smart people's brains that they start insisting that creating a copy of the entire universe at each quantum event is the sane metaphysical alternative shut up and calculate (rereading "anathem")

since there is no hell, I wish the orange shitstain to continue rotting alive

stephenson in "anathem" had an entire scientific-monastic order of st. lora, who do precisely that

I was at a hipster coffee shop in Park Slope yesterday and they paused Geese so that everyone could get out their mandatory prayer mats.

lying is saying something that you know is not true in the world he lives in this is (now) what has happened so he is not lying and it is actually much worse than if he did

Comfortably Boo@numb.comfortab.ly

"I have every doubt that what he is conveying here he experienced." Cruz says Trump is lying.

even at 15, when I first read the book, I was appalled at the cruelty of manipulation, at that time and in that place, whatever her inner motivation for this was (and I was much more willing to grant her the assumption of good faith then than I am now)

Irene's passive-aggressive parenting: after all the 🚫 on Fleur - "my most darling boy, don't think of me--think of yourself." And the poignancy: "All love and life, and joy, anxiety, and sorrow, all movement, light and beauty, but a beginning to this terrible white stillness." #ForsyteSaga26

I don't get the "just" here endowing an idiot with wide agency does not result in then ascribing non-idiocy to him on the basis of the scale of destruction he managed to wreak yes, it's spicy auto-complete from which follows that it should not be allowed to act unmediated

the mythology of this time, after it all blows up and the world is picking up the pieces, will be that the real cybernazism has never been tried

was the cause named claude or cursor?

all right, the automatic typo in straits is pretty embarrassing if I am claiming them as a defining act

there is this old russian joke: "ivan, come quick, I caught a bear!" "well, drag him here!" "he won't go!" "then come here yourself!" "he won't let me!'

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump, who clearly feels he isn't getting enough attention this morning, lies that "the U.S.A. has total control over over the Strait of Hormuz. I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT! ... Praise be to Allah!" Completely demented.

many things have been broken some can be mended others can be mended only with a lot of time and/or a lot of money (all that is leaving aside the will to, of course) but one thing is now absolutely beyond repair the possibility of any long-term planning with respect to the united states

because even when seeming perfectly lucid and responsible, the country has proven that it is at most four years away from staggering home piss drunk, taking a shit on the neighbor's lawn and setting fire to the bed so, science, military alliances, trade agreements, capex projects all gone

the soviets, in their infinite benign randomness, reissued "explorations" except it was titled just "bill evans trio" and featured a bearded era photo (some 10-15 years later) oh, and "israel" was inventively renamed "minor blues" (which, tbf, it is) because of course (I wore this record out)

Surely someone has done this one? Discipline Beat Three of a Perfect Pair

the white house visit curse is already fully operational, and they're buying themselves into another one to complement it? all right, bold move, I'll give them that

Micah@rincewind.run

man I don’t think it’s at all correct - e.g. the Brewers could’ve beaten this and chose not to - but if the Dodgers threepeat after this a whole lot of baseball fans are going to take the owners’ side in the lockout next year it blows

thing is, I understand wilson's shaking rage i would have absolutely the same "take my life's work out of your utterly misunderstanding glib mouth you dirty philistine" reaction if anyone ever decided to make a movie out of the House (not that there's any chance of that, but I get it in my bones)

but to use the soapbox which has been built for her by nolan and no one else (certainly not herself) to summarily shit on the entire thing from the lofty heights is weak, petty and wrong translators' fate is ever to suffer in silence at all stages of work we know the deal when we sign up

the third book is the biggest nobel-prize-winning "they fuck you up your mom [of the boy] and dad [of the girl]" extended commentary ever

Yelena Furman@yelenafurman.bsky.social

him! And tbf, Irene seems, albeit loving, but nevertheless distant parent - in keeping with her lack of interiority b/c G can't describe her? - as does Jolyon, whereby the child knows "that he played second fiddle to [his mother] in his father's heart." I'm not fond of this kid. #ForsyteSaga26

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?

linus is wrong kernel will be worse for his wrongness (not for the first time either) and also his authority does not extend beyond kernel

it's impossible to get into another person's head, of course but it looks to me that linus's management decisions are based on refusing to admit, despite copious evidence, that the average oss contributor is not a selfless savant hacker and instead a combination of lazy, incompetent and malicious

oh, he knew what principles are he just chose, every day, not to have them (same thing with gaiman: the worst thing is that he understood perfectly what makes a decent human, and chose to be an evil shitstain)

the bass (1825 prescott) was in the trunk of the car when it crashed it was burned rather badly barrie kolstein, whose father sold it to scott, bought it and restored it (and then donated to international society of bassists)

my thought would be that this outburst seems to legitimize 1. soames's "not unnatural" urge for a child and 2. irene being the "not unnatural" means of obtaining it unless/until there's another way (having one outside marriage) (although "partizanship" here is on irene's side, it doesn't help much)

Yelena Furman@yelenafurman.bsky.social

Why does Jolyon think that June's proposal that Soames have a child with someone thus allowing Irene to divorce him and then he can marry the other woman "partizanship" that's "fighting Soames's battle"? Wouldn't it put Soames in a bad light, not Irene? #ForsyteSaga26

"klara" is about the exact same thing as "never let me go" where is the human soul located the answer is the same in both books (not inside; we have souls if other humans agree that we do) and I'd say the writer's skill in elaborating on this theme is about the same?

Jacob T. Levy@jacobtlevy.bsky.social

"Klara & the Sun" is very low on my list of Ishiguro novels. This trailer is very unlike "Klara and the Sun." So, is that a wash, or a double-fault? Lyonne, Ortega, & Adams are all always great. Waititi is sometimes great, sometimes awful. Ishiguro adaptations are sometimes great, sometimes awful.

surprisingly, I've already been to most cities that could be described as bucket list for me maybe a list of cities where I'd been multiple times but would like to live for at least several months venice tokyo vienna rotterdam - den haag lisbon prague

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

Stephen Hawking was asked about his IQ once and said "I have no idea. People who boast about their IQ are losers."

btw you know that hellscape as you're driving down nj turnpike to perth amboy? now imagine that it's actually somewhere in canarsie, and you get the kapotnya refinery in the late soviet times, when your number came up to be assigned a new apartment, "please not kapotnya" was the most fervent prayer

took trump 3 days to lose the war, and 3 months to capitulate took putin 3 days to lose the war, and he's still in denial 4 years later freaking hard to beat the orange turd in the detachment from reality sweepstakes, but russkies are lapping the field

that's what russkies mean when they bleat "we can do it again" (the cathedral had been blown up in 1941 by "soviet partisans" - nkvd-led terrorist groups tasked with destroying the city after it fell to the nazis restored in 1995) слава Украïнi
