My copy of #DigitalAccessibilityEthics showed up! I spent my fika ego-surfing my own chapter. Look at all those real, verified, not hallucinated citations! That’s more than you’ll see in some think-pieces or government reports or research studies! You deserve well-sourced content. Treat yourself.

I am reminded of when `display: contents` claimed full support even though using it on structural or interactive elements broke them in *every* browser. Lola’s work needs your support.

Thanks for all your answers to the BCD poll! Of 153 respondents, here's what "full support" means: ▪️ 9.15%: only that the feature is available in the browser ▪️ 88.89%: the feature is available and works according to spec What does this mean? It’s a thread! 👇🏾 github.com/lolaslab/acd...

Related to my last repost covering Lola Odelola’s ACD effort, I’ve demonstrated that Baseline doesn’t consider accessibility (declared out of scope), which is part of why this effort is so important: adrianroselli.com/2023/12/base... Google funds Baseline but we have to fund ACD. How appropriate.

adrianroselli.comBaseline Does Not Really Cover Baseline SupportYeah, that’s not exactly a helpful title. The relatively new Web Platform Baseline offering does not track browser support for accessibility features built into the web platform. If you need to unders...

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

While baking yesterday I managed to burn the fingertips on my dominant hand. But it’s fine because I’m ambidextrous. Also, I totally meant to put this toothbrush up my nose.

The bread made it to day two! I’m surprised given how much of it I’ve been eating. That coating on the slices is a cinnamon cardamom cocoa powder sugar. Not some weird artifact of the gluten-free aspect.

“Accessibility-first screen reader prediction” is not a solution, folks. Parsing a DOM and building your _own_ accTree to then *emulate* how desktop screen readers _might_ announce a page as if *maybe* using read-all just ends up putting more burden on human testers. …

… Never mind missing the bugs, features, heuristics, and more built into a DOM parser and screen reader engine. Unless your goal is satisfy a dashboard while removing humans from your #accessibility testing. #a11y #ScreenReader

Aaron Gustafson made a web component for sortable tables: www.aaron-gustafson.com/notebook/sor... I’m a fan (given many other terrible efforts). Especially the row grouping. If you use it, I noted 3 things to consider / adapt: adrianroselli.com/2021/04/sort... (anchor) #HTML #accessibility #a11y

aaron-gustafson.comSortable Tables with Progressive EnhancementMy table-sortable web component adds accessible, customizable sorting to ordinary HTML tables while keeping their core structure and semantics intact.

This explains why the product shots looked so weird on the models — plaids with perfect lines, weird folds, and odd artifacting when zoomed. The cardboard cut-out model was just the uncanny bonus. Ok, tab closed. (I cropped the photo to show the message buried in the bottom left.)

Trump’s new press secretary, who has repeatedly asserted she is an attorney, seemingly isn’t. Not in California, not in China. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202... Archive: archive.is/4nVBc It’s a continued requirement that you have to be unethical to work in this administration.

While I am glad I run no Google code on my site and only open Chrome for testing (and then close it again, but maybe should uninstall each time), I am such a minority as to be less than a rounding error. It’s truly impossible to avoid Google’s porny tentacles.

Updated this post to reflect the completely predictable result that ~30% of the 100 top English-language content websites are now using Google's Prompt API for browser fingerprinting, Google Advertising profiling, or both. The purpose of a system is what it does. eupolicy.social/@thatprivacy...

“deprecate the Assisted-by tag” Assuming this is to make it harder to identify any copyright-infringing code should this house of cards finally fall down (weird way to protect your project, but whatever). Anyway, nice to see Linux finally catching up to Windows (probably macOS too).

I suppose it’s good the dude deleted the post Baldur linked, which is also not in any of the online archive sites (his robots.text disallows archiving). Good because that author clearly didn’t believe it enough and now others aren’t getting what was probably a crap argument of confirmation bias.

Using Tim Cook, the guy who gave a 24K gold gift to Trump, is not a compelling argument. Even Billionaire boot-lickers can sometimes post fun stuff. Sorry, this 1999-era site isn’t making its 1999-era case well enough to go back to Mecha-Hitler’s CSAM-generating hate platform. archive.is/AXgLi

Fuck you, Breville. I just want to get notified when your out-of-stock product *that you make me use* is back in stock. I don’t want to also sign up for spam from you and your ‘partners’. Using your failure to stock your own products as a marketing channel is shitty and you should feel bad.

Testing a Safari bug fix showed me Firefox & Chromia now behave as Safari did/does (not a bad thing). So I updated my post “Don’t Turn a Table into an ARIA Grid Just for a Clickable Row” to account for this and the CSS is now simpler (anchor link): adrianroselli.com/2023/11/dont... #HTML #CSS
