🚨New issue alert. @aasjournal.bsky.social Vol 43, Issue 11 is live! The first 4 papers form a special topic honoring 10 years of Fudan University’s atmospheric sciences discipline, alongside 12 more papers on climate, air quality and AI forecasting. #AAS #AtmosphericScience #ClimateScience

Grateful to @olliemilman.bsky.social for highlighting new PNAS research: a third of the US West’s glacier area is gone. At #AAS, we follow the #climatescience behind it. Follow @aasjournal.bsky.social for the latest climate and atmospheric science studies. #GlacierLoss #Climate @theguardian.com

theguardian.comThe US west has lost nearly 300 glaciers since the 1960s. Climate crisis is drastically shrinking what’s leftAt the midpoint of the last century the region had 1,450 glaciers and a new study reveals the extent of losses

Great work @leysersturm.eurosky.social . #StormAusten shows how ocean heat can reshape a storm. At #AAS, we publish climate and atmospheric research on these very processes. Explore the science behind the headlines. Follow @aasjournal.bsky.social now. #ClimateScience #Nature

#StormAusten has transformed into a warm-seclusion cyclone. With its increasingly deep, symmetrical warm core, Austen resembles a (sub)tropical storm. This process is fueled by abnormally warm surface water.

Thank you for sharing this @edwardsanthonyb.bsky.social! A record 74.5°F at @scrippsocean.bsky.social fits our latest post on #ElNiño making the Pacific warmer than ever. @aasjournal.bsky.social publishes the latest studies on atmospheric and #climatescience. Follow us to stay updated! #AAS

The sea surface temperature at the @scrippsocean.bsky.social Pier is 74.5℉ (23.6℃) today. That is 9.2℉ (5.1℃) above normal. It is also 1.3℉ (0.7℃) higher than any other reading this late in the year since records began in 1916 (previously 72.3℉/22.9℃ on Oct. 22, 2015). #CAwx #ElNiño

El Niño is still building toward its December peak, and the records are already falling. The central Pacific has never been warmer on record, and parts of the tropics have passed 30°C for the first time. Swipe through 👉 #AAS #ElNino #ClimateScience #Pacificocean

Grateful @mparrington.bsky.social for this timely look at Indonesia’s fire season, built on @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social data. At #AAS, we publish the latest atmospheric and climate science. Explore the latest El Niño related articles with us. #AirQuality #ElNino #Climatescience

Indonesia fire emissions up to 15 October shows 2026 staying close to previous El Niño years of 2019 & 2006 but a little behind 2015. #CopernicusAtmosphere GFASv1.2 data available via Fire Emissions Watch apps.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/fire-emissio... @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social @ecmwf.int

Thank you, @polarrobs.bsky.social , for tracking these changes in Antarctic sea ice. #AAS publishes research examining questions like these and the wider dynamics of Earth's climate. Follow @aasjournal.bsky.social for more atmospheric and climate science studies. #Antarctica #PolarResearch

🧵🌊❄️ For the past week Antarctic sea-ice extent has closely tracked its decline through the same week in the previous record low year of 2023. The persistent low extent then was so far below anything recorded before that even experts were surprised and struggled to explain the sudden change.

Thank you @tadziomueller.bsky.social for this sharp thread on the IPCC AR7 delay and why knowing more doesn’t always mean acting more. Questions like these matter to us at @aasjournal.bsky.social . Follow us for the latest climate and atmospheric science research. #AAS #IPCC #ClimateScience

It's that time of the year, when winter is coming, & a "climate summit" draws near. In that time of year, we need fairytales: our favourite climate fairytale is that of the evil rogue states who steal our climate action. Season 2026, ep 1: "The #IPCC vs. its evil petrostate bullies" 1/2

September is here, but that doesn’t mean the fall weather is. Much of the U.S. is leaning warmer-than-average this month. Parts of the West could see wetter conditions, with some drought improvement possible. www.climate.us/news-feature... #Climate #Weather #September #Drought #ClimateScience #NOAA

An insightful look at compound heat and air pollution extremes. Research in #AAS examines heat–PM2.5 co-extremes in India after 2020 and the role of atmospheric circulation in secondary organic aerosol formation. 📚 Read the research: doi.org/10.1007/s003... #AcademicSky #AirPollution #Climate

Even if strong emission controls are put in place, compound heat & pollution extreme events will persist in China—but weak controls will increase air pollution dramatically, finds a paper in #BulletinAMS. More: https://bit.ly/4bsGYgo

Great share from @egu-cr.bsky.social🧊 @climateclara.bsky.social work looks at whether Antarctic ice shelves are nearing a critical threshold, and what's driving it. A reminder that ice dynamics, from poles to icy moons, stay central to planetary science. Follow for more #Antarctica #ClimateScience

New blogpost alert! 🚨 @climateclara.bsky.social writes about her recent Nature study asking if Antarctic ice shelves will soon disappear. She tries to find out at what point ice shelves may no longer be viable and which drivers can cause their loss❄️ blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr...

Thanks @glenpeters.bsky.social for laying out clearly that CO2 and methane are not competing priorities, but are a combined scientific necessity. At @aasjournal.bsky.social we publish the research driving these conversations forward. Explore our studies: link.springer.com/journal/376 #AcademicSky

Glen Peters@glenpeters.bsky.social

To minimise peak warming levels, net CO2 emissions need to reach net zero as soon as possible AND methane emissions need to decline rapidly. It is not a trade-off between CO2 & CH4, both need to be reduced as much as feasible, as fast as possible! www.nature.com/articles/s43...
