The bravery of journalists to reveal what would have come up in federal court if those indicted had not been kidnapped and sent to CECOT.
Undaunted by DOGE, these determined young people are fundraising to drive across the country and continue their service. Despite their entire program being shut down, they declare “we can't rely on previous systems to help our communities, we must take it upon ourselves and support one another.”
“You just gotta put your money where your mouth is and you gotta live by your conscience, and you gotta know that your livelihood cannot overpower your conscience.” Principal Jaime Cook
Of course, federal funding for the further restoration of the Klamath River has been cancelled - but what a blessing that the dams were removed before this administration.

Reminder that instead of attending Donald Trump's first address to Congress tonight I'll be hosting an open-to-all town hall on Facebook live at 6 PM PT. You don't need a Facebook account – or to be an Oregonian – to tune in. Look forward to seeing you all soon.

The USDAs “first traunch” (stupid word attempt to make something sound legit) covered less than 1% of contracts already obligated to farmers.
Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act added more than 19 billion dollars to NRCS cost share programs to help farmers implement practices on their land. Now, that funding is cut and farms funded through IRA are left with the debt from their 2024 installations. In Iowa alone that amounts to $11,000,000.
A department of peace building. Amidst the need for resistance on so many fronts, it is also important to advance a positive alternative. Thank you @ilhanmn.bsky.social
This (archived) report on USAID’s work in South Africa suggests why musk, whose rhetoric is that of someone born into and steeped in the apartheid regime, zeroed in on it first for the chopping block.
When the strategy is to put forward an impassable bill that seeks to prevent something that is already illegal it is time to rethink tactics.
Schumer: "Today Leader Jeffries and I are joining together to push legislation to prevent unlawful meddling in the Treasury Department's payment systems and protect Americans across the country ... we call our legislation, 'stop the steal'"
“You are not authorized to access this page”. - the US government. Climate Smart Commodities website going dark is very bad news for many good folks doing the work to advance resilient food systems in the USA.

Here’s some recommended viewing for January 20. This great documentary follows King through the last few years of his life as he bridges the struggles for racial and economic justice and helps to launch the poor people’s campaign. As always, his journey is inspiring and instructive.

We need positive forms of political opposition in the United States. The People's Cabinet would offer new ideas, new voices, and new forms of action. snyder.substack.com/p/an-alterna...
In light of POS posts from the right, this time regarding the LA fires, a suggestion for staying with the trouble in a productive way: review the science, envision strategies for regenerative human settlement, and build alternative economic and political structures in the shell of the old.
Confused about why the LA fires are so bad? Jon Keeley, a research scientist with the US Geological Survey and an adjunct professor in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of California, Los Angeles, explains about climate change, infrastructure, and ecology.
Do you dream of ponds and see their potential everywhere? Keyline design locates ponds within the "geography of landscape". This video outlines their common locations and uses. Marisha Auerbach and I made this video for her Permaculture Water Management Course at Oregon State University.
Efforts to save open source material before it is scrubbed from government websites are underway and you can suggest priority material to save. I’d suggest everyone include the National Agroforestry Center and USDA climate hubs in their nominations.
A friend who works at a federal agency where lots of great open source materials are posted sent us this link - there are a series of efforts to archive important government websites, and you can nominate them through the resources here: blog.ucsusa.org/dminovi/thre...
