What if a college honors program was designed around creativity? This is what The John Martinson Honors EDGE program at Montclair State University is doing and I am honored to serve on its advisor board. #creativity #education #honorsprogram #teaching #learning #booksky

Just found in my stuff CompuServe's '97 booklet with all their dial-up access numbers. Provided you had a good line and the right modem, you could reach 28.8 kbps on a landline, or even 57.6 kbps for the happy few who had ISDN. 🦕☎️🦖

About a year ago, one of my RIPE Atlas probes went offline. I was too busy at the time to investigate, and then I forgot about it. I just looked into it, changed the USB stick, and voilà—it's up and running again!

As highlighted in this thread, it seems that the problem is related to connectivity and/or throttling, rather than a server-side issue. I just tried it, and indeed, the loading time improves significantly when I use a UK-connected VPN.

The Geocaching.com website has been painfully slow for some time. I wonder what's its architecture and how much tech debt it has accumulated over the years. 🤔

30 years ago 🎂, I helped create the Tour '95 Live website. Leveraging the expertise of Axime (now Worldline) in live Minitel apps, it became the first live coverage of the #TourDeFrance on the Internet—with race progress updates every 15 minutes (over modem!). It turned into a huge success.

From a technical standpoint (and IIRC), the site ran on an HP 712/60 workstation with maxed-out RAM. The dynamic part was handled by Perl scripts over flat files. The success was so huge, I had to drive from Seclin to Vincennes to plug the station directly into Oléane's fat Internet pipe.
