ACCESS levels the playing field for non-R1 universities by offering free access to advanced CPU/GPU clusters, large-memory nodes and cloud environments.

Researchers and classroom instructors can easily request small “Explore” allocations to jumpstart projects, run pilot simulations, or scale up existing data workflows without the overhead of maintaining local hardware. ACCESS helps non-R1 faculty turn ambitious ideas into groundbreaking discoveries.

ACCESS empowers major research and classroom endeavors without big constraints. You don’t need dedicated on-campus hardware or a multi-million-dollar cyberinfrastructure budget to conduct high-impact, data-intensive research and education.

Titled "What do Language Models Learn and When? The Implicit Curriculum Hypothesis," the paper dives into which skills LLMs acquire and when during pretraining, offering a way to understand model development beyond aggregate loss curves.

"Anvil was integral to the workshop, providing attendees with access to a high-performance computing (HPC) resource designed to have a low barrier to entry for newcomers, which is crucial for cancer researchers who may not yet be experts in research computing."

Researchers at Drake University used their allocations on Bridges-2 at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, Expanse at the San Diego Supercomputer Center and Stampede3 at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) to better understand how light moves through electrons.

Voting is underway for the 2026 HPCwire Readers’ Choice Awards, and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) ACCESS program needs your help to continue our winning tradition! #HPC #EnablingDiscoveryForAll www.hpcwire.com/2026-hpcwire...

ACCESS received four nominations this year and you can vote once for each nominee through Friday, October 2. Winners will be announced in November at the SC Conference Series in Chicago!

Need AI help? ACCESS resource provider @ncsa.illinois.edu is hosting an in-person “Regional Workshop on AI” on October 5-6 on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, designed to help researchers from around the Midwest move from #AI curiosity to practical capability. #HPC #research

Organized by the teams supporting ACCESS-allocated computing resources Delta and DeltaAI, the workshop will have two complementary learning paths: one for beginners and one with more focused domain-specific sessions. Space is limited, so register today! Details: publish.illinois.edu/regional-ai/

"Approximately 150 CUNY cryptography undergraduates benefit from this resource and we are grateful for the support provided by the National Science Foundation. Without it, we would not be able to afford the high cost of obtaining and maintaining a local high-performance computer.” #HPC

Researchers at the University of Minnesota leveraged their ACCESS allocation on Expanse at the San Diego Supercomputer Center to create vaccines with a longer shelf life.

"The result is a biologically constrained model – thanks to NSF ACCESS allocations on Bridges-2 and the use of TACC Frontera – that still learns effectively, while staying closer to how neurons actually work." - Aaron Milstein, Rutgers University

"Thanks to NSF ACCESS support for supercomputing resources, our study continues to build on our team’s earlier work modeling magnesium-scandium and magnesium-titanium hydrogen clusters at lower levels of theory, extending those findings to a more accurate and expansive technique." - Jonathan Lyon

It was such a pleasure for some of our Student Training and Engagement Program (STEP) interns to join us at #PEARC26 this week! Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Juan Ocasio, Elliot Glenn, Justina Rhee and Mark Horak. #HPC #EnablingDiscoveryForAll
