Congrats to this month’s Sticker Raffle Winners!

Sometimes I’m forced to pause and reflect on how I’m doing 20 different jobs with no pay—no wonder I’m exhausted.

Then on the publishing side of things you have a book agent, a marketer/promoter, cover artist, layout specialist, web designer and social media person. Maybe even a tour manager.

Lastly you can’t forget that you also need to eat and keep the office tidy, so cooking and housekeeping is its own job as well.

Sometimes I’m forced to pause and reflect on how I’m doing 20 different jobs with no pay—no wonder I’m exhausted.

In the comics industry, you have a writer, an artist who does the sketch of the page, an inker, a colourist and even assistant artists for backgrounds, as well as the letterer, which is already six jobs.

The printing production can call for a manufacture liaison, inventory/storage and distributer, as well as packaging and shipping, which are all their own jobs.

So I’m recovered from the cold but damn if my arm still needs more recovery time from working on both CalFurry commissions and drawing Mann and Lucky’s wedding last week.

Something people struggle with is that even if the narrative goes in a different direction than you hoped, you are perfectly capable of exploring that story idea yourself and getting plenty out of it without the author being the one to give that to you in THEIR story. They took nothing from you.

more half-baked TADC thoughts as I digest the last episode but my biggest takeaway is that this whole show has made me a much firmer advocate of death of the audience literary analysis. So many complaints are just about wanting the author to WANT to express something else
