(S)Cary 🎃

Intro: I'm Cary. I run a Magic story search engine called @mtglore.com, I cohost on @thevorthoscast.bsky.social, and I also write. Read my zine about Gatherer comments, my loving history of Homelands, my tidbits blog, or keep a secret. In it for the love of the game 💙

So close to things being awesome and complete for ATL!!! @thed00dlers.bsky.social

This week on my blog, how many lands can you realistically remember

New rule: I can't watch a video about something small I feel like doing (writing, drawing, cleaning, whatever) until after I've done that thing once that day. Forcing myself to wring out the brain sponge

This week we were joined by Story Lead for Magic @grayhaem.bsky.social and Narrative Lead for Reality Fracture @merismullaley.bsky.social to talk about crafting the arc that led to Jace's big finale and telling that story on the cards: soundcloud.com/user-3456430...

My spouse started reading Edge of Eternities without clicking links (since the beginning sections each follow the first choices) and asked me what "IS THY HAND STILL BURNING?" had to do with the cat

Guys! Check out my EDHREC interview where I continue to push our beloved D00dle-off to the masses edhrec.com/articles/an-...

This week on my blog, I try to answer three questions

This week we were joined once again by the incredible @kathleen.loadingreadyrun.com to talk about the Reality Fracture story! This is a must-listen to episode if you like the craft of writing, Magic's worldbuilding, or the band Queen. soundcloud.com/user-3456430...

*Youth Pastor Voice* You know what won't sell out and leave you empty handed?

Is Star Trek seriously going to be the first set since the original Zendikar where we get full art lands?

You Can See Everything was maddening in all of my favorite ways

Yapping with friends is kinda the best thing ever, huh?

Tame Impala should make songs for the rest of the monsters

I'm 4-1 in fantasy football league. My three pieces of advice: • Read waiver tomes to find the best mages to employ each week. • It may seem counterintuitive, but be open to trading with your rivals—especially if they lack your wisdom. • There's a spellcaster named Jahmyr Gibbs who is quite adept.

clearly you haven't forsaken all earthly desires

WE INTERVIEWED ALISON!!! It was a great time, honestly a really great discussion. Go give it a listen for some Reality Fracture story insights!! #Vorthos

We were joined by the incredible @alisontheperson.bsky.social for today's episode to talk about writing Reality Fracture and what it meant to be asked to kill Jace Beleren. We talk craft, inspiration, and the behind-the-scenes scheduling that made all of this grand story arc work.

Made a cyanotype print of my poster design!!!

When witches are cackling and telling you “Fire burn and cauldron bubble,” take a step back. Breathe. Those are normal things for fire and cauldrons to do. They’re trying to mess with you.

If we don't get one written criticism of god packs cheekily titled "How It's Folded" then the entire Magic: The Gathering experiment was for naught

10 years of @scryfall.com 🎉

The Magic 1997 monthly calendar had the sickest art of Mishra (and a dragon engine) by Phil Hale, but the only image of it online was 300x300. I've been annoyed by this for a decade. #Vorthos Anyways…

sorry, aaron's lawyer here. i've been advising him to post like this for the last 3 years as an experiment to gather research into Poster's Madness and if it can happen to a moderator.

Finally playing videogames

Getting my Magic lore buff

I've forever been a holdout saying "I won't buy Universe Beyond and there's no crossover that would ever get me to buy in" but then I remembered the Beatles, and—while I'm no superfan—the idea that I could turn Ringo sideways and send him into combat against an enemy beast has this undeniable allure

Got another haircut this afternoon. Apologies for not announcing in advance, I only scheduled it this morning. I'll do better going forward.

We bring the end to Reality Fracture story this week with our discussion on episodes 9 and 10, where we kill Jace Beleren and have to make a lot of jokes to keep ourselves from crying while recording.

Sigh… Just got bad news from my survey writing gig. Apparently, management didn't appreciate me secretly editing the final draft to ask if respondents were "still mad" about the art callback in Jace, Multiverse Architect.

Beautiful prerelease afternoon

Genuinely, Magic story (from card creative to published fiction) is *the* heckling ground for uncurious spectators. You have to ignore the noise

Special thanks to @vorthosjay.bsky.social for kidnapping me at Magic Con last year and to @arsenaultrivera.bsky.social for aiding and abetting the crime

Beginner: Doesn't notice book errata Amateur: Assumes book errata is for a future Magic set Pro: Speculates UB sets themed around books for 2027 Expert: Knows the book errata is for Secret Lair x Tai Lopez, because he's friends with former Magic pro Mike Long

Even though I despise teases and hate talking myself up, breaking both rules to warn that my contribution to issue 3 of Cascade Cascade will be the wildest Vorthosian ride yet. That's it.

My beloved Bugs is a load-bearing poster on here. Don't goozle yourself, bluesky. #freebugs
