One thing we really don't hammer Musk and these other "defenders of western civilization/culture" on enough is that this thing they're so precious about protecting doesn't really exist (or rather, only exists if its sole component is skin color).

There simply isn't a thing you can point to that an artist living in Spain and a turnip farmer in Bulgaria have in common culturally without falling back on them both being considered white, and my (or Elon's) life is no more similar to theirs than it is to the life of a factory worker in Guatemala.

And yes, most people who think about these things understand that this is all white supremacist dog whistling, but I still think there's value in having these people try to explain what unites "The West" every so often to make it clear that what they actually mean is "The Whites."

"Western civilization" has always been a nebulous mishmash of a variety of different civilizations/cultures, many of whom—and a lot of people don't know this—have actually hated each other, waged war on each other, and tried to wipe each other out. See, e.g., all of European history.

Royce White might need to start looking at overseas leagues instead of trolling the WNBA, because he's eventually going to need a job, and it's clear he's a juiceless loser as a politician (which makes sense, since it seems his only move is badly performed culture war vice signaling).

Probably the least relevant part of last night, but as a dedicated hater of his I have to point out that Donald's speech makes it even more clear how much him admitting in private to Bill Maher that he lost in 2020 means nothing, and that Bill was a gullible rube for thinking otherwise

This World Cup format is in desperate need of something akin to a Wild Card standings (or better yet, a Playoff Machine). Like, they're telling me that Ecuador is through with this win, but I had to do like 20 minutes of looking back and forth between the standings and schedule to understand why.

For those who are curious, it's because we already have three third place teams on three or fewer points (S. Korea, Scotland, and Senegal/Iraq) and Austria and Algeria are both on three points and play each other.

So if one wins, the other ends with three points. In the case of a draw, both would finish on four points, but any team with a better goal differential than Algeria's -2 would be in, and with this win, Ecuador is +0 in that category.

Let’s play a game. In your alternate universe, GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY is named after a different Beatles and Radiohead song, respectively. Quote this with the name of the movie

After watching this game down the stretch, I'm buying all the "Wemby is a lanky French Embiid" stock you can sell me. MVP-caliber talent, but what can he do offensively to win you a tight playoff game late?

Given last night's result, I don't know what outcome is funnier going forward: 1. The Knicks win in five, having only lost the game the President attended; or 2. The Spurs win in six, the President having so thoroughly destroyed the Knicks' good vibes that they never recover. A true conundrum.

Wild to think that she was basically the consensus Most Beautiful Woman in the World at this point in time, but if she was coming up in the modern day there'd be a sizeable group of chuds obsessed with "transvestigating" her because she had the audacity to have cheekbones and a jawline.

Broke: the President needs to be removed from office because he's a threat to American democracy Woke: the President needs to be removed from office so the country's 250th Anniversary party doesn't suck

Just in case you were wondering, our Bicentennial Celebration in 1976 was held in multiple venues, and the artists included: The Eagles Fleetwood Mac Loggins & Messina (Their final performance before splitting up) Dan Fogelberg Elton John The Beach Boys America Elvis Presley Bruce Springsteen 1/2

Fun game: pick nine acts that you know hate the President and would make a much better concert list. My nine: - Bruce Springsteen - Neil Young - Taylor Swift - Green Day/Billie Joe Armstrong - Eminem - Rage Against the Machine/Tom Morello - Jack White - U2/Bono - REM

I'm very interested in finding out if a blue tsunami would force MAGA folks to realize the bubble they're living in. Like, if they lose the Texas Senate seat, do they realize everyone outside of their unfortunately sizable cult kind of hates them right now, or do they chalk it up to fraud?

My hope would be that the result of this upcoming election is sufficiently bad for them that it causes them to reassess the information sources that are telling them that things are going great, but that's more optimistic than realistic; one midterm election won't undo a decade of cult programming.

Given the case in front of the Supreme Court today, I want to make one thing clear: the 14th Amendment is blindingly clear in its language and intent regardless of your lens of interpretation. If you don't want a government that has it, you should find a new country. I hear Hungary might be for you.

I wonder if the fascist chuds of our great-grandchildren's generation will try to do the "actually, Hitler was left wing" thing with Donald and point to, like, the proposed $1k accounts for citizen children as "proof" he was actually a socialist

A thing I think about a fair bit now: would the country/world have been better off if Donald had won in 2020? I think it's a tough hypothetical: on the one hand, COVID would have gone much worse, with way more deaths as he sacrificed our old and vulnerable at the altar of the economy.

believers in fascism, white supremacy, and Christian nationalism; people who want our government to be actively killing, imprisoning, and oppressing marginalized groups instead of just discriminating against, neglecting, and under-serving them. Malicious, but not consciously and intentionally so.

But ultimately, is that sort of passive systemic violence better? I don't know. But like I said, it's something I've been thinking about a lot as we've all watched this term descend towards fascism.

So really the question is what stupid shit beyond bungling COVID he would have done in that 2021-5 timeframe. I think war with Iran might have happened regardless, since there were plenty of warmongers around in term one, but on the whole I think the rogue's gallery surrounding him in term one

would have been less destructive to the US overall, because while they were ghouls, they were mostly ghouls in the same way as the previous GOP administrations since Reagan: business fascists who were more concerned with the business part than the fascism, as opposed to our current group of true

But given that Biden did essentially nothing to quell the rise of fascism in the interim, all that for years out of power did was allow those people to reorganize and plot, and for low info voters to forget how shitty his first term was, leading us to where we are now.

It also allowed them to remove what few guardrails existed during his first term and make almost universally worse choices at all subordinate levels, particularly in the Cabinet. For example, I don't think there's any way RFK Jr. worms his way into running HHS if Donald's second term starts in 2021.
