New story out this week for Public Domain & HCN on DOI's project to expedite drilling activity across Alaska's North Slope. The dept will be issuing a categorical exclusion that exempts most winter drilling activity from enviro review & releasing a new rule that does same for production sites.

big scoop this morning from @adamfederman.bsky.social the Trump Interior Dept is prepping a “categorical exclusion” that will rubber stamp winter oil and gas development in Alaska’s remote National Petroleum Reserve www.publicdomain.media/p/trump-fast...

AIS Infrastructure (ais-infrastructurellc.com), the company responsible for damaging the archaeological site in Cabeza, has scrubbed the announcement for the DHS contract from its website. The $2 billion award had been prominently featured as a major generator of new jobs. Copy below on left.

In 2022 I did a story on impacts of border wall construction on the Sonoran Desert, much of which focused on activity in Cabeza Prieta Nat'l Wildlife Refuge. This week I learned that a 1,000 year old archaeological site in the refuge was destroyed by a DHS contractor theintercept.com/2026/04/30/a...

Would not be the first time the CIA has targeted dissidents in the U.S. In fact one of the hallmarks of the post-9/11 era has been the erosion of safeguards put in place to prevent intel agencies, including the FBI, from engaging in this kind of activity.

One of the FBI agents present in the courtroom for closing args during the Prairieland trial was investigated in 2017 after a night of debauchery. He brought a woman back to his hotel room & had his Rolex, Glock, & $60 stolen. I FOIA’d the internal investigation & the FBI has denied my request. 1/

Don't expect the Doyon rig accident that took place Friday evening to slow Conoco down. In an email obtained by enviro groups seeking an injunction on winter activity, Conoco's lawyers say, "Exploration activities are continuing & the seismic program is proceeding as planned."

First report from Alaska DEC regarding the Doyon rig accident. Evidence of a diesel spill has been confirmed--approx 4,000 gallons were on board--some 500 feet from a tributary of the Colville River & in critical habitat for polar bears, caribou, arctic fox, ptarmigan, & muskox.

If I was based in Alaska I'd be on the next flight to Nuiqsut. ConocoPhillips, the North Slope Borough, & BLM under Trump will do everything they can to suppress information about the drilling rig accident that took place on Friday. Same thing happened with the gas leak in 2022.

"Several people with North Slope experience have said the rig likely tipped due to being moved in warm 30 degree weather, which would have caused the road to be softer. Once it went off the shoulder on the soft ground, tipping over was probably inevitable." alaskalandmine.com/landmines/do....
