Library Clerk and geek of many stripes (comics, board games, anime, manga, fairy tales, etc). Nerdy enough to watch anime. Old enough to not give a damn if someone calls them "Japanese cartoons".

A fresh look at FOX’s ‘BAYWATCH’ reboot, starring Stephen Amell, Livvy Dunne and Noah Beck. Premieres January 6. #Baywatch #FOX

Watching Quick Draw McGraw. And I know, God forbid we praise TV from the 19-freakin'-50s, but I can't help noticing the earlier H-B shows are a lot more watchable than later ones. [CONT]

Early shows like Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, and the Flintstrones stem from a time before Hanna-Barbera had already used every gag a few times over. A lot of the 70s and early 80s stuff in particular was pretty bad. [CONT]

Things only looked up with this blip of action shows in the '90s like Swat Kats and Pirates of Dark Water. And then shortly after that they became Cartoon Network Studios.

Backstage #Tokusatsu Theatre: Writer 1: "Okay, so for #Jiban, what if full-grown Japanese Robocop is best friends with a little girl?" Writer 2: "Won't that seem weird?" Writer 1: "Trust me!" Halfway through the series . . . Writer 1: "Okay, so maybe we phase out the little girl for a while"

New #tokusatsu acquisitions. Got some super robots. Got some Kamen Rider. Got some Metal Heroes. All purchased within the last few weeks. What? I don't have a spending problem! You have a spending problem!

Seed of an #anime idea: Setting is a world where Japan's infrastructure was so influenced by the rich and powerful Super Robot industry that everything is built in such a way that normal people need their own Super Robot to go0 anywhere. Like USA's relationship with cars, but Super Robots.

Protag's friend: "Oh, yeah. You still drive around that old Blue Wolf? Y'know, it's not even much of a combiner since your sister took the Yellow Panther with her to college. You should definitely trade up". [Cont]

Protag: "My parents say it's not going to happen unless Dad's Blck Bison or Mom's Red Condor break down completely. So, I'm stuck with a PoS Blue Wolf".

Protag's friend: "Hey man, see my new robo?" Protag: "Is that the new DaiBattler VII model. Oh, man! I wish I had a bot like that! I still have to drive around the leg of my family's old combiner". [Cont]

I nominate this as the show's theme song: youtu.be/1d-aWMQuoS4?... For the record, I didn't hate the Clone Saga when it first came out. But I didn't read deep into it. I was a kid and I'd read an issue here and there, and I was like "There are two Spider-Men now. Cool."

Watching the end of Grow Up Show, where the Sunflower Circus based their whole show on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. AND HOW IN THE WORLD DID THIS BROKE CIRCUS AFFORD THE LICENSE?! THERE'S NO WAY IT WAS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN YET. The Sunflower Circus is so getting sued by the Baum Estate #anime

Okay, this joke about the X-Babies is a perfect inclusion in The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe. For those who don't get it, Mojo's X-Babies were likely created by Chris Claremont as a joke on the Muppet Babies, which was produced by Marvel Productions back when that was a thing.

So, turns out #Crunchyroll stopped marking both Grow Up Show and Jaadugar with "Up Next" for me weeks ago. So, it looks like I have some moe circus and Mongolian court drama #anime tocatch up on.

I used topsters.org to whip up a 3x3 grid of my Top 9 Tokus! There, a nice graphic so you can judge my incredible taste in tokusatsu

Just watched the latest episode of #Ultraman Teo. And I'm realizing that I'm still not entirely sure why Ultraman Zero is so popular. I mean, I get that some people see him as the one who stepped up and stops Belial. But for me, Geed has kind replaced Zero as Belial's enemy.

Just finished reading the infamous "Detroit Justice League" and enjoying itmore than I expected. And once again I fi d myself puzzled by the Justice League and how it never seems to become more than the sum of its parts. [Cont]

Writers and artists put so much effort into beefing up or developing JL exclusive villains like Prof. Ivo or Despero only for most people to prefer they fight Luthor or stolen Fourth World villains. Same goes for possible JL-exclusive heroes, except J'onn J'onnz who fell into the role over time.

You know, I think I know why I like Star Trek: SNW so much. It reminds me of Young Justice. The comic book, not the cartoon. Both embrace the absurd aspects of the world they exist in without making the main characters the butt of the joke. [CONT]

Then when they get serious, the tone change hits like a truck. And just like with YJ when it was running, the "serious fans" complain about the lighter tone constantly. [Sigh] Well, at least it's strangely fitting that a ST show would match the tonal structure of a comic by the later Peter David.

So, kobolds in German #folklore are house spirits. Like the elves in "The Elves in the Shoemaker". And kobolds in #DnD are lizard people. Has anyone combined the two? Like, little lizard dudes who clean up messes and fix things around the house when no one's looking.

You just know this is the prelude to him trying to get rid of Juneteenth. I'm White as the driven snow, and I can see what this is.

Trump says Americans have too many holidays and that people need to work more days to boost his failing economy

Me [Watching The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones]: " Huh. No Pebbles or Bamm-Bamm. That means this must have taken place before Season 3". The Internet, unbidden: "YOU KNOW, THERE'S A THEORY THAT THESE SHOWS TAKE PLACE AT THE SAME TIME". Me: "Oh, God. Are we still doing this?"

Internet: "YOU SEE, IT'S ACTUALLY A POST-APOCALYPTIC DYSTOPIA. BEDROCK IS THE SURFACE THAT'S REVERTED TO SAVAGERY. AND ORBIT CITY IS THE FLOATING PARADISE OF THE ELITES". Me: "Or they're both just parodies of Post-WWII modernity that are unconnected to any of that". Internet: "WHAAAAAT?"

Did you guys know that The Atom from DC Comics used to ride around on a mynah bird named Major Mynah? There. Now you know. (Also, why doesn't he ever appear when DC does "Super-Pets" stuff?)

Watching the '88 Ruby-Spears Superman cartoon. I haven't seen much of this show. But it won me over just by having the Prankster in it (and yes, I know I pick the weirdest classic villains to like).

Watching The Honeymooners for a blog post about The Flintstones. While the influence is clear, Ralph Kramden seems a lot angrier than Fred Flintstone. Fred's short-tempered, but Ralph needs actual anger management classes.

The straight-man and true everyman of the Looney Tunes. People may wish they were like Bugs or fear that they're like Daffy. But most of us are a lot more like Porky Pig than we think (despite him being a bit of a stuttering worrywart).

Jason the Cartoon Fan@jasonthecartoonfan.bsky.social

Your unpopular opinion(s) about Porky Pig.

Starfleet Instructor: "You see, here on this star chart, the planet Betazed. Home of the Betazoids. That is not to be confused with this planet." [Pulls up a different star chart] "Freakazed. Home of the Freakazoids". Student: "HUGBEES!" Instructor: "Such as this cadet here".

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who likes Snapper Carr. I don't know. As someone who likes his superhero comics a bit on the lighter side, I like the fact that there's a character who defuses some of the inherent pomposity of the "Big 7 JLA".

Gail Simone@gailsimone.bsky.social

Perfectly said, Snapper. Perfectly...well, you said something, anyway.

"They are the 7 greatest heroes the world has ever seen. Gods among men. Banded together to face the greatest threats of the universe. And also they hang out with this guy." People are going to say "That's a mismatch". No. That's a pressure release valve.

Well, after removing Twitter and Facebook from my phone years ago, I've finally removed YouTube as well. And all it took was for seemingly every other video to threaten to spoil episode one of Lanterns (a show I can't watch right now).
