i just finished writing my first program in many years, a bash shell script to change your XDG desktop folder, so that you can more easily visualize and organize things on your linux desktop with a keystroke: github.com/200found/swi...
@miniver.bsky.social being sentimental for a moment, i just happened across an old version of useit.com and following the links to nielsen's new wordpress-style ai boosting blog (and a 404 after a 30s load time) was disorienting all over again. www.chnm.gmu.edu/digitalhisto...

semi-hijacking this post to say i see this sentiment a good amount in the furry community and i wish that more people would push their convention organizers to fund things like queer outreach programs or at-risk organizations more often instead of a billion different animal shelters on rotation
A worrisome number of people seem to believe that posting deranged “I like animals better than people” comments on Facebook posts about shelter dogs is all they need to do to be Good and Virtuous - it’s basically Furbaby Indulgences.
agreed; even when the mass media wasn't chugging fascist boot back in the 90s, they still weren't reliable at covering any queer or fandom group/event, and it's why cons have specific media policies. these days, the mass media should be assumed to be a bad faith actor when talking about us.
Hey, critters. The media's interested in furries again. As someone who's been in the fandom for well over two decades and has worked as a journalist, here's a quick guide to Dealing With The Press: If a journalist approaches you, SHUT THE FUCK UP SHUT THE FUCK UP SHUT THE FUCK UP SHUT THE FUC

really wish people would actually start learning about art history cuz “redraw trends” were literally how painters were taught to hone their skills until they got good enough that they started breaking from tradition
thinking about the popularity of so many "redraw trends" and plagiarism of compositions by all sorts of artists (it comes up often for gposing but 2D artists do it too). i have to sum up my discomfort with it as follows: it's artists treating other artists the same way A/I treats art as data

Shout out to the always astonishing Vik Muniz, the artist behind this work. www.mta.info/agency/arts-...
ok i am definitely losing my mind over his collage work as well: vikmuniz.net/gallery

The Furry Convention Art Show is important for many reasons; one of them is to illuminate the younger, capitalism-compromised members of the community that "offline"/"analogue" artwork has a magic that is being taken away from them, and we must fight to keep it alive.

mostly done, just need a clear coat to unify it and make it glossy. went for a layered granite look with q-tips and some cool grays.
progress update on my "oof-style (you just lost at smash bros)" paper mache mask to cover our ugly doorbell plate. used some paper mache "clay" to round off some imperfections, will add a final thin layer of paste and paper towel, gesso, and then a smooth rock texture paint. 1/3
small update: that paper mache "clay" is more trouble than it's worth as a patch and would probably work better as a casting material and possibly for sculpting fine details like fingers and dicks. i'm tempted to make a wall-mounted penis-shaped house key holder with it, instead of this mask.

most of the mask was sculpted over a large balloon, with grocery paper bag as the base layer; it's surprisingly flexible and free! the only downside is, it distorts a bit as it dries. might use toilet paper as a base layer in the future. oh and my recipes come from ultimatepapermache.com 3/3
