Then, koraycaliskan.bsky.social and @addiemcgowan.bsky.social gave a double paper on Google's superplatform as a demarketised supply chain, exploring the complexities of "adtech spaghetti" in "Prodexchange: Digital-Industrial Economisation in Google Search Supply Chain."
Finally, @crommers.bsky.social asked, "Why are Podcasts Ads so bad?" in her look into how advertising's past, present, and future haunt the podcast ad landscape.
@donaldamackenzie.bsky.social kicked us off by asking "What Your TV Knows About You," bringing a consideration of adtech's embodiment in domestic settings (think: on the sofa, do you lean in, or lean back, for certain ads?).
We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at our Platforms, Advertising, and Power event: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/platforms-... Still a few spots left if you'd like to join us.
Please join us on Saturday, 21st June for our one-day hybrid academic/knowledge exchange meeting exploring issues of platform power, material politics, and advertising as a 'lens' for opening up platforms for empirical research. Note the date has been moved from Friday, 20th: tinyurl.com/jn39r22j
Speakers include keynotes from @silvertje.bsky.social (Anne Helmond, Utrecht University) and @fvandervlist.bsky.social (Fernando van der Vlist, University of Amsterdam), @allartmarkets.bsky.social (Liz McFall, University of Edinburgh), and Brian O’Kelley (co-founder of AppNexus and Scope3).

Huge thanks to @platformsnsociety.bsky.social for publishing our most recent project output. It argues that we need to reimagine Google Search as a supply chain, not a search engine. Check it out, open access, here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
