One thing I have learnt in my 3 years covering tennis is that the “old guard” are very afraid of the new crop coming into the sport. And instead of seeing what is working for the new faces in tennis, just dismisses them as “not knowing what they are talking about”. (1/2)

And yet I don’t see anyone talking about Eliot Spizzirri who had to play 32 tournaments in 2025 while doing 3 a days sometimes during the offseason and hasn’t played since February. Instead I have some French “journalist” telling me I should do my research…

Babe we might look new here but we are not NEW to this. And the sooner you get on board the better it will be for us all. Because we are not going to "get bored and leave". Which I know is what you all think. This ain't my first rodeo. (2/2)

C- Not too bad, Not too bad. No matter how you felt coming into Serena Williams’ return, that was a fun match and the buzz around the sport is great. A win-win for all. We will be at Queens all week (and for the ATP next week) so follow along.

If you hadn’t heard we are at Queens this year covering the sights and sounds of the tournament. Right now that mostly been rain. And there will be no play before 5pm local time. Follow along on instagram for more frequent updates from the grounds.

The news that Carlos Alcaraz missing Rome and Roland Garros due to a wrist injury coming just as I was wrapping up shooting with Eliot Spizzirri who has been out since Dallas due to an injury (elbow) says a lot about where the men’s games is right now. Maybe something will shift now.

Finally! “Live” from Indian Wells it’s Ground Pass! We break down 9 days in the desert, the changes to the tournament, the Lululemon take over and the tennis. With sound bits from Coco Gauff, Learner Tien, Arthur Fils, Lilli Tagger and more. Links in reply ⬇️

Was talking to Jessica Schiffer and lamenting on how little tennis you actually watch when you are covering a tournament, so was a bit quiet on here yesterday because I actually sat down and watch a few matches. Was a nice reset headed into week 2 at Indian Wells

I don’t know if anyone has compared Indian Wells to CES but I can think of no better analogy for the first few days of the tournament. I talk about what that feels like and share audio from my favourite moments from pre-tournament media day. 🔗⬇️

My favourite interview on the grounds so far has been with Lilli Tagger. The great thing about coming to these tournaments it’s getting to learn about new players and Lilli has such a unique background. All the interviews will be coming to Substack soon.

Lilli Tagger started as a skier and she plays Ice Hockey in her free time. It was really nice chatting with her and getting to know her as she starts her pro career. I asked her about what it been like transitioning from juniors to the main tour. It’s been a year of firsts.

I can’t believe I am entering Day 6 at Indian Wells. It has been a whirlwind of shooting OFF SEASON running from interview to interview but it’s been such a worthwhile trip already. Can’t wait to share it all.

Speaking of OFF SEASON, episode 4 drops on Sunday. We ask the question - Can a tennis player change their shots? Chris Eubanks explains why that can be tough as we follow Camila Osorio, Eliot Spizzirri and Colton Smith through their practice. Trailer ⬇️

Spent the morning catching up on my F1 podcasts and they are all reviewing the new season of DTS. Made me feel bad for tennis fans that Breakpoint doesn’t exist. Then I remember I made Off Season They say make what you want to see in the world, so I am doing it.

We went to Delray Beach, smelled the ocean, watched great tennis, and came back to a blizzard in New York. 🥶 New Ground Pass episode covering February’s packed tennis calendar, Jessica Pegula’s Dubai title, the 250 debate, and a 30-match Alcaraz win streak. Links below.

No vibes. Vibes are gone 😔

New York Metro Weather@nymetrowx.bsky.social

Saturday's Weather Rating: 1/10 The arctic has arrived - again. We have an Extreme Cold Warning and a Wind Advisory in effect starting at 10:00am. Wind chills fall to nearly 20 below zero tonight. I've got nothing. The vibes have frozen over.

I didn’t have a podcast at the time but I remember the rhetoric back then. Where was all this energy when the cameras followed Sabalenka and she smashed her racket? Thr players need private spaces. They needed it then and they need it now. This is not a Big Brother house.

You know what I hate, when analysis is coloured by your personal preferences. Because it’s always the ones that call for “journalistic integrity” who are the biggest offenders. Clocked. Good Morning.

This is the stuff I nerd out about. I have worn an Apple Watch since day 1, I wear an Oura ring and have worn the whoop before. If I was in Australia getting to the bottom of this would become my entire job.

This Whoop issue seems to me to be a complete misunderstanding of how it works. Sinner in press says they are allow to where the vest under their shirt so how is wearing a whoop different 🤔 Can someone ask the tournament, please and thank you. #AusOpen

I have been around tennis players enough to know Eliot is one of the hardest working out there. This performance isn’t even surprising to me.

Court Theory 🎾@courttheory.bsky.social

If you want to know how Eliot Spizziri came into this season to make the third round of the AO and hang with Jannik Sinner like this, watch @afolorunso.bsky.social’s documentary series, Off Season. She went to Florida and followed how El and others got ready for 2026. 🎾 youtu.be/0U3F4CfUsh0?...

This has become a trend recently but I have now listened to 2 podcasts covering the Australian open that got simple facts wrong. And I am not taking what was the serve speed of a forehand or whatever but basics like knowing Monfils announced his retirement… (1/2)

…this year and that Spizzirri was a direct entry into the draw. Am I tripping? If people are listening to you for this information shouldn’t you do them the solid and get it right… Are the standards in the basement (2/2)

I know how to pick ‘em 😅 So happy for Ethan and Eliot. Great start to their Australian Open. I spent a lot of my off season time with them because the practice so much together. More of that coming in episode 2.

Great night to be on team Off Season 😏 Excellent match from Eliot Spizzirri who now leads his head to head against Fonseca. “We’ve come a long way since Champaign” #AusOpen
