Critical disaster preparedness bills have lapsed. Extreme weather and natural hazards threaten millions of Americans each year, but hazard monitoring and research will weaken unless Congress renews these bills. Take two minutes to contact your legislators: spklr.io/63326EVbpG

On 16 October, the IPCC suspended the 65th Plenary session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after the session ran over time without reaching a consensus on the report timeline for the 7th Assessment Cycle (AR7) and the 2027 budget.

The U.S. Academic Alliance for the IPCC, hosted by AGU, thanks the AR7 authors who volunteer their time to assess the state of climate science. The alliance encourages member governments to keep working toward a timeline and to authorize the budget so the IPCC’s critical work can continue.

spklr.ioJudge Stops USDA's Radical Restructuring, For Now - EosA judge ruled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture can’t move forward with its efforts to relocate thousands of employees and close U.S. Forest Service regional offices.

Recognizing the massive disruption it would cause to wildfire response, the judge paused sweeping changes to the US Forest Service, including moving its HQ to Utah, closing all 9 regional offices, and 23 research facilities.

AGU joined a coalition of plaintiffs, including the U.S. Forest Service employees union, to file this case against the USDA last month. We will keep fighting for our federal workers employee community and for all the ways they keep us safe.
