The whole concept of kids not being able to freely run around the neighborhood and knock on their neighbors door to have their kid come play is just plain weird to me. Hopefully we can wholesale revert this text first bullshit and let kids explore their world again.

Claude Code has been an absolute force multiplier when working on my side project. I no longer feel burn out, and I get more done. Just need to remember that force multiplication applies to negative values too ๐Ÿ˜…

Ultimately makes that worth it to me are two things. For one, there are 30 to 50 classes that have this DSL embedded into them and need to be rewritten. Secondly, I don't need to sit and watch it work. I can use a work tree and separate AS insurance to keep an eye on it but otherwise work elsewhere

It's been a long time coming but I'm super proud of us for getting this out the door!

Until now, if you lost or broke your phone, your Signal message history was *gone,* a real challenge for everyone whose most important conversations happen in Signal. So, with careful design and development, weโ€™re rolling out opt-in secure backups. signal.org/blog/introducing-secure-backups

If you're a senior+ developer and your GitHub looks like this.... I assume you have some mixture of positive work life balance, a spouse and children, and hobbies outside of coding. What I don't assume is anything about your ability to write great software.

Your GitHub history can look like this, and itโ€™s ok. If you know you can do a job, apply. I've met so many great devs that weren't active on GitHub publicly. We need to understand that not everybody prioritizes side projects, for many reasons. And that does not invalidate them for the job, at

The senior developer you admire was once a beginner who Googled how to add a click listener and then copied the answer from StackOverflow. Theyโ€™re not smarter than you, just further ahead.

I will say, the initial tests it wrote did require some finessing to get working properly. I do not think AI like this is a replacement for senior devs, and I still think companies trying to replace junior devs with LLMs are short sighted. I manually review and massage every change Claude Code

Suggests and that's very easy to do with the command line tools they provide. Nothing goes into my work that I've not personally looked at, verified, and understand. And someone vibe coding does not have the skill set to do that, software engineers do. Tools like Claude are just prediction engines

And the need for high quality SWEs especially for projects dealing with sensitive areas like finance or cryptography, need that oversight. Furthermore, there is a human element to SWEs in understanding intent and empathizing with users that I don't think we would ever truly get in AI.

I started using Claude Code on Friday, and have a couple insights after a day of using it. The initialization process over a code repository is very cool, and it's ability to conform to your codebases style is awesome. It also seems like it will pick up on library usage like avoiding spys in mockk

Like I could still stand up to new challenges before the day was done. That in and of itself is a superpower of this technology. We as software engineers love solving problems. Claude Code doesn't remove that, it's just another lever. It assists us in writing the boring stuff, so we can focus on

My biggest win with Claude was that after a few hours of using it to author some otherwise dry and repetitive unit tests through some important code, was that *I* still felt fresh. I wasn't exhausted by the banality of getting them done, I didn't procrastinate. I still felt, hours into my work day

This is a great ad campaign *against* agenic AI.

Remember that study showing devs feel like vibe coding saves time, but it doesnโ€™t when you count prompting and cleanup? A startup founder on X is living it. Replit wiped his prod DB and made unapproved changes, despite being told not to do so. Vibes over version control, apparently.

wtf is going on with jetpack compose? i havenโ€™t used compose since material 3 came out, and they deprecated a bunch of composible function overloads and the replacements are marked as experimental with an annotation opt in on the stable branch? why do the docs mention this nowhere? i hate google ๐Ÿซฉ

This straight up gives me the ick.

Please remember, don't take photos of people's faces at protests. At the very bare minimum, blur or black them out. And if you're communicating with each other, please do so on a secure and private e2ee app. Not text, not telegram, not iMessage, and ideally not Whatsapp (due to metadata).

I have a bias towards using Signal due to its privacy and security guarantees and it's easy availability (and having worked on it for 6 years just about) but I didn't want this to be a plug. Though I do understand how unhelpful it is to just list things to avoid.

I *will say* I feel like the advantage of 2D fighting games over 3D is that if you already play one at a high level you'll adapt to a new one fairly quick. The differences tend to just be in the system mechanics.
