Last week the FB algorithm fed me a post by an estate agent in a small town in Galway congratulating a couple on buying a house, and the comments were just wall to wall go back to your own country because they happened to look Asian

sorry lol from the rest of Europe

The whole world is having to deal with the terrifying and expensive chaos caused by this country's temper tantrum, and then we have to hear them mytholigise themselves on top of it all. Just can't be fucking dealing with it.

People love to pretend they care about rape, sexual assault and all forms of gender based violence but ultimately they don’t. And they prove it over and over again

never accept the premise of the far right's arguments that is how they win. The only misstep here was by Jim O'Callaghan in ceding to their performative outrage

Consent ad controversy: Using Ireland's poor grannies and grandads to explain children’s boundaries was probably a misstep, but the message still matters... www.thejournal.ie/readme/conse...

Scrolling the timeline through posts about Russell Brand, Jim O’Callaghan undermining the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, Vittorio Angelone and the ad about Amy Acton and you’d think it’s a depressing week to be a woman but that’s actually just every week

Incredibly depressing to government ministers demeaning public information campaigns about consent based on right wing culture war trolling. That Jim shared his thoughts about how this ad was inappropriate on X is an irony too far

The Journal@thejournal.ie

Adverts run by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre looking at consensual hugs between children and their grandparents has been suspended after criticism. Aontú's Peader Tóibín called the ad "bonkers", as he urged a "need to build resilience" among children. www.thejournal.ie/grandparents...

Can’t teach children it’s ok to say no to non sexual contact you don’t want, can’t give children sex education, must teach children to be resilient, it’s almost like these people think the secrecy and lack of knowledge and power children have that leads to abuse is a good thing (they do)

Also think this is indicative of how staying on Elon Musk’s far right propaganda site can fool people into thinking there is an upswell of public opinion on something. I hadn’t even heard of this ad before it was taken down. Criticism from the Hungarian Conservative should be a hint to an agenda

Every day I become more and more grateful that we had the repeal referendum when we did, because there is not a chance it would happen now in an Ireland where we let the culture wars of people like Peadar Toibin and Michael Collins drive government action

Aideen Blackwood reposted

if Peadar Tóibín is suggesting that children need to get used to being touched without their consent, he should be asked why

There’s a lot to love about the Abdul El-Sayed clip but I’m obsessed with all the older white women in the audience who are the embodiment of that meme of your retired aunt who now wants to seize the means of production, or whatever it is, you know the one

It’s cool that the possible destruction of life on our planet keeps coming down to 51/49 election results where one half is just like fuck everything and everyone

Have always been an unusual Irish elder millennial woman (I find Joanne McNally annoying) but she is really endearing herself to me by being the worst but most confidently wrong faithful to have ever been on Traitors

“I’m not ready to go all the way back to America, why not fight to the death” Myha’la channeling Harper Stern for the roundtable which probably isn’t a bad strategy #celebritytraitors

a feature not a bug

“He likes power, and I feel like this is giving him some sort of power. It’s all about power and control in everything he does…” White supremacists who talk about “protecting women” from migrants are, unsurprisingly, violent misogynists. They do not want women’s safety — they want to control women.

Tragically have only realised it is on tomorrow having thought it was on Friday all week which will really interfere with my plan to get absolutely rat-arsed

Grateful to be represented by Nicola Coughlan

However my spiciest take on the list is that a list with no housewives (though I appreciate choosing one to represent is difficult I’d personally lean Atlanta) is invalid. At the very least it should have Vanderpump Rules

what a clueless lump

"I don't think any elected politician should be supporting an illegal protest" Chris Bryant (the secretary of state for Northern Ireland) says Michelle O'Neill (the first minister of Northern Ireland) is wrong to stand with people defending their community.

peak British Labour Party to think the far right goons trying to drown migrants have legitimate concerns but the people of the Garvaghy Road are an illegal troublemaking protest

This is so horrendous

Brian Kerr on Virgin Media: “I’ve been in touch with [Gavin Bazunu] this evening, and he’s feeling quite low, and shunned by some of the players and by the FAI… (🧵)

Sure it shouldn’t have been up to the players but I think we can also stop treating them like people with zero agency here. They’ve made a choice to go out on that pitch, and they have to own that choice
