If this makes you mad, submit your cognitive science research to @openmindjournal.bsky.social No APCs, no subscription fees. It's funded by university libraries, at low cost.

Eric Schares@eschares.bsky.social

🚨Update: Our analysis of global APC expenditure has now been expanded to cover more publishers (7 -> 14) and more years (2019-2025). We estimate $15B in APCs paid over seven years, $3.7B in 2025 alone. Elsevier crosses the $1B threshold by itself in 2025. arxiv.org/abs/2608.16322 #ScholComm

ASAPbio is excited to co-lead this initiative with @coar-repositories.bsky.social We recommend following the page to learn more about Publish-Review-Curate model of scholarly publishing and the PRC Alliance!

Publish-Review-Curate (PRC) Alliance@prcalliance.bsky.social

Have you heard of the Publish-Review-Curate (PRC) model of scholarly publishing? PRC reimagines scholarly publishing by breaking the traditional publishing process into independently executable stages: ✨publish, ✨review, and ✨curate.

🧪 NEW: Australia's regulation of research integrity is not meeting the mark -- universities have no real obligation to tell the public about serious breaches, nor correct the scientific record. That seems pretty bad for science, and for trust! nobreakthroughs.com/australias-r...

nobreakthroughs.comAustralia's research integrity system is weak and inconsistent. How can we fix it?A recent study presents small tweaks that could strengthen an ailing research integrity system.

What is somewhat lost in this is that Odgers has spent her career studying developmental psych and Haidt is a moral psychologist and philosopher who has taken this on as a side interest (not that this is in any way dispositive).

Big news at the META/e conference: metacheck, a promising tool for automatically extracting information from scientific manuscripts is beta-launched today. Has the potential to massively increase the efficiency of meta-science projects. www.scienceverse.org/metacheck/

A few thoughts on the launch of JROR, especially because the editors are actively soliciting comment: 1: So much time & energy go into running journals (above & beyond the editorial labor), so kudos for this group for resigning from Publications & then successfully starting another journal.

We're excited to launch J·ROR, the Journal of Research on Research. A new open-access home for research on how research is funded, organised, conducted, communicated, and evaluated. Our first editorial: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #ResearchOnResearch #MetaScience #OpenScience #STS

What riles me up about “people tried to shut down PP research” is that Cuddy’s own coauthor-turned-critic Carney guest-edited a whole special issue of Registered Reports on Power Posing (incl a meta-analysis), which shows strong evidence against PP even though most authors clearly weren’t sceptics.

Amongst all the rubbish that I have seen in peer reviewed papers, this data is the worst. There are sketches, images of children (with no mention of ethics) and multiple celebrities, whilst the paper states: "A smart camera located in patient rooms has been used to collect images".

Retraction Watch@retractionwatch.com

Scrolling through an online image dataset, Adrian Barnett pointed out a few familiar faces: Sylvester Stallone, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Daniel Craig. “You can see,” Barnett said, “this is just a comically bad dataset.” retractionwatch.com/2026/05/18/k...

New preprint: Preregistration is supposed to make research more transparent. But if registry records aren't kept up to date, the transparency benefit erodes. We checked 1,137 psych meta-analyses on PROSPERO and found the records are systematically out of sync with reality osf.io/preprints/ps...

But peer review is a great signal of credibility!

A librarian found a "preposterous number" of fake references in a Springer Nature journal paper. Librarians are already chasing down papers that don't exist because students used AI. Now the journals are doing it too? Who's actually checking? retractionwatch.com
